Chatral Sangye Dorje

Post by CedarTree » Sun Nov 19, 2017 9:33 pm

Anyone know more about Chatral Sangye Dorje than Wikipedia and rigpa wikia?

Books?

Writings?

Dharma Talks?

So on and so on?

Peoples view on him? *Seems he's top shelf*?

Chatral Rinpoche was the antithesis of most modern Vajra teachers.
He wrote nothing. Did not tour. Had no organisation.
His influence was huge but was largely conducted in a hidden way.
You can read about him. But you can't read him.

That is not true, Rinpoche wrote at least several texts, among them lineage prayer for Thugdrub Terkha Dundu and manual of drubchen of this practice. I hope his students will prepare and publish Rinpoche's sungbum.

Thank you for the correction. My language was sloppy.
I meant he wrote nothing ABOUT teachings or about himself in the biographical and subjective style which has become the expectation of many westerners.
His daughter told me that he had been approached by an agent of one of the Buddhist publishing houses with a book deal, and he had firmly declined...I am not sure what kind of thing they had in mind.

His sungbum just came out in 5 volumes.

See my qualifier above.

Videos on YouTube, especially those where Sangyum Kamala Rinpoche speaks about Chatral Rinpoche

Some short comments by one of his students that I find inspirational:

This is not actually true. He wrote books under pseudonyms.

I stand corrected.
My main point was that his life was very different to most Lamas who have come to prominence since the Diaspora.

He wrote books under pseudonyms.

That's interesting. Any idea why he would have done that and what he wrote about in those books? Are they included in his sungbum?

He wrote a book countering the arguments of spook worshippers -- not under a pseudonym, though.
