How would humans reach enlightenment through Buddhism and inner peace?

By putting faith in this mind being buddha. Then kindly asking what life is from that until it clears up.

bodhicitta
Kye ma!
The river of continuity is marked by impermanence.
Ceaseless flowing of appearance.
Beautiful and repulsive.
The dance of life and death is a display of the vast expanse.
With gratitude the watcher and the watched pass through the barrier of duality.

Inner peace is nice, but not sufficient.
Buddhism sounds more like a religion than a path.

The path is to realise wisdom and compassion.

Finding a qualified teacher is an excellent start.

What do you mean by ‘enlightenment’ and ‘inner peace’, kemosabe?

That is debatable, given that most people already put enormous effort in things that are completely meaningless, careers, riches, etc.
(82) Whatever hardships there are in exhausting yourself
All the time for the sake of the puny desires (of the body)
That will definitely perish and (consequently)
Fall to joyless realms and worse,

(83) With one millionth of the hardship, there would be Buddhahood;
Whereas those with desires have suffering
Greater than those engaged in bodhisattva behavior,
And yet they have no enlightenment.

With the view of valid cognition of the two truths, performing the two accumulations, resulting in the two bodies.

By finding a qualified Guru and following his or her instructions.

I dream of dzogchen and we are all supposed to learn from each other so i don't mind seeing different schools etc talking to each other.

Well, since this is the Dzogchen forum, the answer to the original question is probably something along these lines.

Explanation in terms of meditative practices:
First, do the preliminaries.
Then, receive pointing out instructions on the true nature of mind.
Next, start practicing Trek Chöd plus the supportive practices like, for instance, Guru Yoga and inner fire practices.
Once you are stable in Trek Chöd, add Tögel to your practice.
Continue until you've reached signs of accomplishment.

Explanation in terms of progressive stages:
Apply above meditative practices. Applied correctly, your practice will unfold through the four visions (as explained typically in the literature on Tögel). Once the fourth vision is completed, enlightenment is the result. There are attempts by, for example, Longchen Rabjam to align the development of the four visions with the 10 Mahayana Bodhisattva Bhumis. Progress could therefore also be explained in terms of the unfolding of the 10 bhumis.

Explanation in terms of the mind you apply during practice:
First, receive pointing out instructions. You might need to receive them many times. Doing so, you learn to distinguish ordinary mind from Rigpa. Once you've learned to distinguish these two, try to apply the view of Rigpa on everything that arises.

And so on.

It’s not debatable. Every master including Buddha undergoes tremendous sacrifice and effort. But it’s not meaningless. It means everything.

It is a matter of perspective. Slaving away at a job for most of your day for the duration of your life takes more effort. And you have been doing it, or things like it, for countless eons. Buddhahood can be accomplished with an insignificant fraction of this effort.

Try reciting a billion mantras. Or sitting still for years. Even one month. Or even one day.
