Finding a qualified Teacher

Post by Nbee » Mon Jan 21, 2019 12:23 pm

Hello.

Currently in Sarnath, India but from Vancouver, Canada.

This type of thread may of been posted already but this is Late Jan 2019. I'm in India until mid April and am willing to travel or go anywhere to find a teacher.

Who may start me on the path of Dharma with Maha mudra or Dzogchen, beginning with Ngdro. This aspiration has come after living with a Western Nun for many months when I was younger and reading the examplery lives of Milarepa and Shabkar.

I have spent time doing vipassana and much time doing mantras, and prayers from my limited knowledge and understanding. Never formally initiated except for White Tara.

I am thinking of going to the Tushita center in Dharamshala to do a course. I know Tso Pema has a few great teachers but can I just show up and expect teachings?

Any help or pointers would be highly appreciated

The teacher I am currently folowing has a gompa in Sarnath. He is a ngkapa Lopon in the Dudjom Tersar.

Speaks perfect English.

I strongly recommend you make contact with Chokyi Nyima Rinpoche. He travels widely and is a truly excellent and very kind teacher. His form of teaching is very powerful, at least for me. He is the eldest son of Tulku Urgyen, which should speak volumes about his pedigree.

There are also his brothers, Tsoknyi Rinpoche, Mingyur Rinpoche and Chokling Rinpoche, all of whom are also exceptional teachers who travel widely.

If you can find a way to meet them I can recommend these three. I never met finer teachers in my life.

https://songtsen.org/F/songtsen/apropos ... d447f13aac

Great teachers themselves usually have many teachers. I hope you can meet many fine teachers and please them all with practice and service.

If you are going to Tso Pema in India you can just show up and introduce yourself to Ontrul RInpoche at the Drikung Kagyu Gonpa. He is the root teacher of some of my friends and is highly reputed as a Mantrayana practitioner and also as healer. Ontrul also has one or two sons, I believe, who are teachers in their own right now.

There are a number of great hidden yogis and yoginis around Tsopema though most are not teachers.

Near Tsopema one can perhaps meet Lama Wangdor Rinpoche. Lama Wangdor is highly reputed as a Dzogchen teacher and for being accessible. It seems very likely he has attained Rainbow Body.

I’ve met Lama Wangdor Rinpoche when he’s visited New Jersey and attended a few different teachings. All I can say is that being in his orbit had a profound effect. He certainly has extraordinary qualities. And this isn’t surprising considering he shared the same root teacher as ChNN, and spent huge chunks of his life in retreat. I’ve wanted to see him again yet he hasn’t traveled to the US in years and I’ve not yet made it to Tso Pema.
I hope you’re able to meet him and make a connection.

Tso Pema also is the seat of Lho Ontul Rinpoche, a highly regarded teacher from the Drikung Kagyu lineage. His son Ratna Rinpoche is also a teacher and speaks very good English.

p.s.: He holds very rare and precious Dzogchen transmission inside the Kagyu school

Yes. Actually I've known of Ohntul Rinpoche for 5 years and have always wanted to meet him and possibly learn from him. Two friends of mine are students of his and I've been in contact with Tashi trying to get dates on his empowerment for the last 2 months :guns:

This thread has opened a lot of opportunities to meet with great teachers and get started.

Lama wagdor is amazing. And so is lama lena. Lama wangdor does.not give much formal teachings now but he does give interviews and he usually does kora around guru rimpoche statue arround for pm.

If you go when lama lena is in town (october, November) maybe you can get some formal teachings by lama wangdor translated by lama lena.

Also lama lena is very open to give one on one pith instructions, for me she is quite amazing

Mingyur rimpoche will give his whole joy of living teachings in kathmandu in the first half of april. Everything with kingyur i highly recommend

If you are into drukpa kagyu you shouls visit tashi jong

Posts about Lama Wangdor Rinpoche and attainment of rainbow body have been moved to this new thread. Please continue that discussion there.
