Support Prayer Wheels for World Peace

Post by phantom59 » Sat Feb 20, 2010 7:12 pm

Continuing a tradition of prayers on the wind that has existed in the Himalayan region for centuries, we are creating flags that fly for world peace and the calming of environmental upheaval. We print, sew and prepare over 140 titles which contain varied prayers and images of Buddhas, Bodhisattvas and lineaged teachers of Tibet .

Volunteer needs:
Experienced or eager to learn seamstresses and tailors for cutting, sewing, grommeting and boxing of thousands of flags.

Work description:
Fabric is taken after printing to be cut into units. Five Buddha-family colored 'chevrons' are sewn separately and added to a bordered flag. One flag takes two hours, though the process is assembly-lined for the time savings in sequenced work with colors and threads. Grommeting for flagpole lines is the last step before boxing and labeling. Includes other sewing projects for beautification and ritual events.

6 months preferred.

Patience with machinery and tools, with a quiet respectful attitude towards sacred art and coworkers.
