Having a gf is a practice by itself. Practice is not only study/doing saddhana.Aryjna wrote: ↑Tue Jan 09, 2018 12:24 amAny specific suggestions?Josef wrote: ↑Tue Jan 09, 2018 12:18 amRead those namthars
Having a "consort" is often said to be a contributor to long life and creating advantageous for practice, transmission, and terma (in certain individuals of course).
Not to mention the numerous western scientific studies that show healthy relationships contribute to longer lives.
My main point is in relation to the majority of practitioners, that are far less advanced in their practice. Realistically speaking, in most cases it takes up a lot of time that could be spent practicing/studying, and it also creates strong negative emotions.
true dharma is inexpressible.

Unfortunately it is not a practice by itself. Otherwise every single human would be liberated long ago.javier.espinoza.t wrote: ↑Thu Jan 11, 2018 3:52 pmHaving a gf is a practice by itself. If you think that's an advanced practice try marriage.

Though may only seem tangential, but I think it's important subject as what amounts to a public health crisis: if you indulge in pornography, this will be an extraordinary contributor to anxiety, social dysfunction and a host of other symptoms. I say this on the basis of both personal experience and the increasing amount of study on the subject that really doesn't receive due publicity.MatthewAngby wrote: ↑Wed Jan 10, 2018 3:49 pmVasana wrote: ↑Wed Jan 10, 2018 8:26 am Matthew, first all consider yourself very fortunate that you're in to the Dharma at such a young age! As you saw, most people at dharma centers tend to be a bit older.
You're 16. There's gonna be some awkwardness and it's normal that you're wanting a girlfreind at your age. Since you saw how few people your age attended the teachings, you might get an idea of how often you'll get to meet girls in your dating range. Other events and centers may or may not be any different.
Study and practice dharma but don't let the pursuit of a dharma girlfreind get in the way. Work on overcoming any awkwardness and developing any social skills by engaging with people at the dharma center. This is how you'll meet both male and female dharma friends too
But I don’t know how to overcome my awkwardness amd shyness ... like what should I do? I can’t really have a nice chat with people too. Okay this might be off topic but always, I feel shy and scared to talk to rinpoches, so I often tend to be quiet in voice when talking to them, and also I find it hard to have some “ story and joke “ time with them because I always tend to be quite shy and not able to start conversations. So what should I do to help get over this thing?
I won't give you whole speech on quitting porn, especially considering that I don't know if this applies to you, but here's a site I found very educational and inspiring for addressing a porn habit if there is any applicability and interest: https://www.yourbrainonporn.com/
It isn't easy by any means, but if you read the testimonials of those who quit–and I can also attest to what everyone else is saying–you can see how important this is to get a handle on.
