Going to see a Lama soon. Offerings to bring?

Post by KonchogUrgyenNyima » Tue Jan 07, 2020 6:17 am

Hey my friends,

I’m going to see a lama soon who will give me something very precious. This is not a public event. I want to show up with good offerings. I know I should offer things which i see as valuable, but i want to also be able to offer things that this lama will see as valuable, in a traditional manner. Anyone got any suggestions for how to do this in a traditionally nice way?

A kata and an envelope with money is normal. I sometimes bring a piece of pure gold, it is a traditional gift for receiving some teachings.

Where do you get a "piece" of pure gold? Do you bring a piece of 24K jewelry?

You go to a coin store and buy a coin from an ounce down to a 10th of an ounce. Easy-peasy, although expensive.

For reference: Spot price as of this morning for 1 oz. US gold eagle coin = $1,629.55
