Murder of Akong Rinpoche & Entourage

Post by Palzang Jangchub »

To all dear friends of Samye Ling and Choje Akong Tulku Rinpoche

I am very, very sorry to inform you all that tragically, my brother Choje Akong Rinpoche, my nephew and one monk who was travelling with then, were all murdered in Chengdu today. Rinpoche’s body has been taken to hospital where a post mortem will be carried out. That is all the news I have so far. If I receive further news I will let you know.

My nephew Kating Lama has been able to inform His Holiness Karmapa’s sister who has informed H H Karmapa, H H Dalai Lama and Chamgon Kenting Tai Situpa and they are all saying prayers.

We will have to do a lot of special prayers and make a lot of appropriate offerings on Rinpoche’s behalf and any contributions you wish to make in his name will be much appreiated.

I request you all to do whatever prayers you can.

With best wishes,
Lama Yeshe Rinpoche

If the thought of demons
Never rises in your mind,
You need not fear the demon hosts around you.
It is most important to tame your mind within....

In so far as the Ultimate, or the true nature of being is concerned,
there are neither buddhas or demons.
He who frees himself from fear and hope, evil and virtue,
will realize the insubstantial and groundless nature of confusion.
Samsara will then appear as the mahamudra itself….

Very sad news. I've met Akong Rinpoche a few times and was always impressed by him.
Prayers for his swift return and condolences to his family and students.

Akong Rinpoche worked tirelessly for the well being of others...in Tibet, South Africa, Europe and of course UK. I took refuge with him in 2000. He will be missed by many..... May we remember him by practicing the Dharma.

Why would someone want Akong Rinpoche assassinated? Is there some political background here?

I can't believe this. What horrific news. Who the hell would do something like this?

It appears there was a dispute about money...three Tibetans have apparently confessed to stabbing Akong Rinpoche and two in his party. Possible bandits?

Our world has become totally unhinged. We need to very seriously consider the final words of Shakyamuni Buddha.

BBC

And it's not hard to believe, unfortunately. Plenty of Tibetan bandits out there.....parts of Tibet are quite dangerous, and always have been.

It is very close to the border of what was once Tibet (Kham), but is now incorporated into the province of Sichuan.

It is the traditional capital of Sichuan. The Tibetan mafiosi from the local underworld are quite active there.

... I am shocked to hear that he along with two others has been taken from us so suddenly. I would like to offer my condolences to his family members, everyone at Samye Ling Monastery, the Rokpa Foundation, and all the persons involved in his projects in Tibet as well as to all of the students whose lives he touched.

I just saw this. I'm lost for words. He was one of my beloved teachers for 20 years. I just received the lung for the long Chod practice from him when I was last at Samye Ling in May. He was the closest thing to a living saint I have ever met.

Such a genuine, gentle, decent, decent man. Someone who truly did live for others. To die like this is so undeserved. He spent years building schools, hospitals and orphanages in Tibet, Nepal and Zimbabwe. I have seen him care for some of the most difficult people with personality disorders and mental illness with the utmost kindness, patience and compassion. He genuinely did not care for his own comfort or wealth or reputation.

He worked so hard to build Samye Ling - the temple was only completed this year. He was 74 and we all knew our time with him was not going to go on forever but this is too soon and in this manner is so completely wrong.

I am grateful for the example he gave me of how a true Dharma practitioner lives.

Please include him in your prayers tonight - although he will not need them - and us his students who assuredly will. We are so lacking in merit.
This is not the wrong life.
