Did you read the comments on YouTube? They wxplian things fairly thoroughly, I think.

yeah, i found this dance very precious and clear. each action of smash, bond, etc. is an amazing example of what lamas do for the sake of the buddhadharma. it's fantastic.

this is my opinion of course, i don't know really how is it throug monastic view. however, i'm happy to share it.

In this ritual is the karmapa serving as medium for mahakala?
Maybe a related question:
Is self generation as deity the same as being possessed or channeling the deity? Where is the distinction?
