Kurukulle from the Hevajra tantra

Post by TrimePema »

I was looking at the Uncommon sadhana for Kurukulle from the Hevajra tantra and noticed that it said the recitation should be counted on a mala of red sandalwood. This is very difficult for me to find, I think because there are a lot of fakes.
Does anybody have an authentic red sandalwood mala and know where I can find one?

Or maybe one of you practices this Kurukulle and can tell me if a teacher has told you it doesn't matter what material of mala you use?
I hear bodhi seed is said to have all the qualities of the different materials combined, so maybe that would be okay?

Hey
I know, the quality of this shop is great http://www.malawerkstatt.de/epages/6125 ... ts/MA10122
hope it's ok that the shop is in germany. you can pay via paypal p.e and they are shipping worldwide.
But I think sandalwood is never really red. It's just a difference to take black sandalwood or "red" sandalwood that is more a redly brown

i think genuine red sandal wood is supposed to be very expensive and quite impossible to get nowaday at a reasonable price. I think bodhi seed is a good choice but nowaday it is also getting forbiddingly expensive. Red coral can be used but it is also very expensive. I have heard that red carnelian can be used for Kurukulla.

Actual "red sandalwood" won't be an option, but bodhi seed is good, coral is great (red coral would be ridiculously expensive, but there are non-endagendered pink or bamboo coral with red dye malas available). Carnelian/other red stones would be considered good as well, and I'm guessing "fragrant woods" like even normal sandalwood might be good too, though I can't say for sure which ones.

I would ask your teacher. I would assume that it doesn't matter.
