Absolutly, accumulations for the sake of accumulating means nothing. There is no buddha who is counting your number of recitation and give you a diploma once you reached 100 000.

There are many kind of practice that can act as a purification and a way to set deep intention and union with the Guru. The accumulation of ngondro is just a way among many other way, and more specificaly adapted for persons who have possibility to make month long retreat. Some people make pilgrims, some perform long recitations and contemplations, other go through deep transformation and burning of inner garbage, other makes sacred art, some purify their fears... the importance is inner transformation.

In the best case, a Guru should adapt the teaching for everyone. Because everyone is different. That's why when there are thousands of disciple in front of a Guru, i don't say it's not powerful, but let's say it's more "safe". A master should really adapt his or her teaching to each disciples. And it involves a relationship, and a capacity to "read" the person profundly.

Kundalini is not buddhist, and does not care about your accumulation nor your belief. But it requieres purification. Maybe some can work on kundalini very quickly (some have spontaneous awakening - not necessarily easy), and some other need extremly deep purification process because of different factors and obstacles that block them (most of us). Everyone is different. No need to rigidify the path. The best way to avoid mistakes - which can be... annoying for those subject - is to work with a master willing to help you.

Preliminary is working on the base, fundation. There is a strong emphasis on it first because it creates the fundation for all the rest.

Still, it's never "done" definitivly. It should always be feed, but more and more subtle. It never really ends.

A form at first is flexible. Over time, it becomes rigid and never change.

What is the problem ? It's that circonstances, context change. And the form resist because it's the nature of the form of tradition to always remain the same.

It's like a pendulum swinging. At the top, it does not move, and at the other end, it moves. The top is the principle : they never change. The other end is the form : it should always adapt to the context, to the persons, to the circonstances.

What we see today in some places is the opposite : the principles are not so strong, but the form is extremly rigid (and not adapted to the context).

Eh.

Some would argue that Humans, in general, have more time. But these are such sweeping generalizations, really.
Really, none of us has any time. We think we do. Problem numero uno.

This is a thread on (Gelug) empowerments, not sure why anyone thought it was an appropriate place for a ngondro debate, but it isn't. I don't see any reason to keep this open (such as information about an empowerment, etc.), if someone has a compelling one you can PM me.
