Je Tsongkhapa thangka image
Je Tsongkhapa thangka image
Hi,
Does anyone know if this image is legit or if it has shown up anywhere else?:
I like this image and was wondering about it's authenticity. Anyone here think it would be ok to visualise this image when reciting praises, migtsema or even ghanden lha gyema?

Seems legit. I found the image on wikipedia here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Je_Tsongkhapa. By clicking on the image, there is this blurb,
Unfortunately, the link to Oglethrope University Museum of Art is broken.
Je Tsongkhapa in the fifth vision of Khedrup Gelek Pelzang, 1st Panchen Lama. This version dates from the late 1800s. These images were in the collection of a previous Dali Lama. The digital version of this image comes from the internet, from http://museum.oglethorpe.edu/TibetGalle ... 5_page.htm.

A small version of the image is still on the site - it says it was from an exhibition:
The Mystical Arts of Tibet Featuring Personal Sacred Objects of the Dalai Lama
July 20 – December 29, 1996 and April 15 – June 7, 1998
Seems to be five in the series on the site

The antidote—to be free from the suffering of samsara—you need to be free from delusion and karma; you need to be free from ignorance, the root of samsara. So you need to meditate on emptiness. That is what you need. Lama Zopa Rinpoche
Re: Je Tsongkhapa thangka image
That is one of the 5 visions that Je Tsongkhapa's disciple Khedrup Je had of Je Tsongkhapa, after his passing.

Re: Je Tsongkhapa thangka image
The name Tsongkhapa is derived from a great meditator of Bodhisattva. The mandalas under Tsongkhapa generally includes tree-like structure. In the painting like Lineage Tree and Karmapa Buddha is seen getting knowledge and power from a supreme force, which is Tsongkhapa.

Ummmmmm... the Karmapa lineage had started some 200 years before Tsongkhapa's birth.

Could be a reference to Manjushri - Tsongkhapa is sometimes claimed to be an emanation of Manjushri.

Could be, although it'd be odd to refer to Manjushri as "the man from the onion valley" I thought it might just be a misidentification of people in the refuge tree

Wonder if the phrase 'knowing your onions' refers to the wisdom of Tsongkhapa...lol

Sorry, for some reason when I was reading your comment that phrase in the post slipped my mind
