Being grateful to a healing from Kwan Shih Yin bodhisattva and noticing the widespread ignorance among modern Chinese about Buddhism, this good man compiled an excellent review of Buddhism in China. Not heavy on scholarly arguments, but an adequate look at the varied deities and practices in Chinese Buddhism today.

One odd feature is in the chapter on Samantabhadra Bodhisattva where he is called 'she'! I have never run across a Samantabhadra image being considered female; but I suppose it is possible since any bodhisattva can appear as any being, even non-human.
