Post by arrau76 »

Hi all

Is the Amitayus sutra recited in the Pure Land tradition ?

I like that sutra very much

Thanks in advance!

If we mean the Shorter Sukhavati Sutra, sometimes called the Amitabha/yus Sutra, yes it's a very common liturgy because of how short it is. In Sinitic (China, Taiwan, Vietnam) Pure Land practices, it's not uncommon to tack the Rebirth Mantra before it as well.

Thank you, Silent Light !

No, I didn't mean that Sutra, I know which are the three main Sutras in the Pure Land Tradition

I found a pdf "Amitayus Long Life Sutra", and I thought I could recite it because it is about Amitabha (Amitayus) Buddha

I've done a research now, and I think it's a Sutra used in Vajrayana only, isn't it?

This is the Sutra I meant : https://fpmt.org/wp-content/uploads/tea ... tra_c5.pdf

That sutra is from the Tibetan Canon. Not sure if a parallel exists in Chinese. If one does, I can say for sure, it's not considered a fundamental sutra in East Asian Mahayana.

Many thanks, Admin_Pc !

Sorry people, maybe I should have specified better the title of the Sutra in the "Subject" form.

Namo Amitabha Buddha !
