A while ago, I came across a video talk by Ven. Master Sheng Yen that mentioned gender among certain bodhisattvas. I made the mistake of not making note of the original source, but did manage to jot down a transcription from the subtitles:

Might be worth posting this on the Zen Forum International, where Guo Gu who used to be Master Sheng-Yen's attendant monk posts. I think he is also a member here, so you may wish to contact him directly with your question.
