花蓮慶修院 shingon temple in hualien taiwan

Post by Fortyeightvows »

花蓮慶修院

This temple in ji'an hualien taiwan was built in the early 1900's to serve the japanese population. After the japanese people left it sat mostly unused for a number of years until the government fixed up the building. It is now a tourist attraction.

The shrine room contains a mandala and all the ritual implements are there as well.
There are statues of the eighty-eight buddhas and a sign saying that these are there for devotees who wish to do the shikoku pilgrimage but cannot yet. There is a small gift shop which sells, among other things, candles and incense for offerings.

The sign explains a small ritual for visitors.
1.throw some coins in
2. ring the bell to call the deity
3. bow twice
4. clap twice and pray with your left hand slightly higher then your right
5. another bow
