Usnisa Vijaya Heart Mantra

Post by shentongpa »

:namaste:
Does anyone have reliable informations about the Heart Mantra of the Uṣṇīṣa Vijaya Dhāraṇī Sūtra (oṃ amṛta-tejavati svāhā) ? Does someone practice it ? If yes, what is your experience with it ?
Thanks.

As you see below, it is used in Shingon School :

In addition to the long dhāraṇī, there is the much shorter Uṣṇīṣa Vijaya heart-mantra:

oṃ amṛta-tejavati svāhā

Use full version, this is true gem.

Many people peach Lotus Sutra (Myoho regne kyo) or Pure land (namo amitofo) but Usnisa mantra is the same grade as Lotus sutra.

The dharani kicks ass, especially in combination with Nampar Jompoa dharani and mantra.

Uṣṇīṣa Vijaya is only one of three long, fundamental mantras that practitioners (often who are ordained, rarely laymen) recite and memorize in their daily otsutome/gongyo at the temple. The other two are the Karaṇḍamudrā Dhāraṇī (also known as the Casket Seal Dharani) and the Amitāyus Dhāraṇī. The latter is recited during maguragyo (deathbed rites).

There are other mantras learned that are also memorized, but in any case they all require the supervision and permission of a teacher for recitation.

If I'm not mistaken, the name in japan is "Bucho Soncho Darani". The short version provided makes me think of a mantra of Amida: On amirita teizei kara un.
