Esoteric Nembutsu

Post by rory »

I had started a thread on esoteric Nembutsu over in Tendai and just added to it with theses on Dohan and Kakuban, great Shingon masters, additionally there are great discussions on this topic in "Revisiting Kamakura Buddhism" and "Tantric Buddhism in East Asia" ed. Richard Payne , so I'm cross-posting the thread here:

himitsu Nembutsu came from Mt. Koya and was so influential, spread to Mt. Hiei and exerted a great influence. I love this subject and wanted to share the material with everyone here in the Shingon forum.

Chih-I:
The Tai-ching states "the women in the realms of Mara, Sakra and Brahma all neither abandoned ( their old) bodies nor received (new) bodies. They all received buddhahood with their current bodies (genshin)" Thus these verses state that the dharma nature is like a great ocean. No right or wrong is preached (within it) Ordinary people and sages are equal, without superiority or inferiority
