No worries

Post by White Lotus »

is the ultimate tathata or emptiness or One? no worries.
is truth relative or objective? is there truth? no worries.
am i a buddha or deluded? no worries.
am i liberated or bound? no worries.
am i perfect just as i am, or a mess? no worries.
have i entered the market place and am free to buy and sell whatever i want? or am i still in the monastery? no worries.
do i have faith in myself just as i am, or am i a mess? no worries.
have i abandoned concepts or do i play with them? no worries.
is 'this' it, is 'that' it? no worries.
is there anything i need to become or be? no worries.
do i need to stop worrying? no worries.
if i die tomorrow, or live a lifetime? no worries.
if i am cluttered and ill disciplined, or live an ascetic life? no worries.
if i need to go, come or stay? no worries.
just as you are. no worries.
with my concerns, needs and impulses, need not i be worried? no worries.
faith mind. no worries.
let go. no worries.

What are your views on karma, cause and effect?

ENHANCING THE PRACTICE BY
MOVING OuT OF THREE DANGERS
EMPTINESS ARISING As AN ENEMY
Lesson 70
When you look at the mind in order to investigate its true
nature and thereby discover that it does not really exist, you
might think, "Since all phenomena are nothing but emptiness,
what is the use of acting wholesomely with body, speech
and mind. Wholesome and harmful actions, as well as cause
and effect of actions, all this does not exist in the least:'

This grasping that there is nothing to reject or counteract is
called destructive talk. Since this is wrong view and action,
one speaks of the error of emptiness arising as enemy. In the Mulamadhyamakakarika it says: "Unintelligent beings
destroy themselves with a wrong view of emptiness. It is like
wrongly holding a poisonous snake or wrongly practicing a
magic formula."
Intelligent beings understand that nothing really exists,
without being contaminated by the fault of viewing emptiness
as nothingness. They are aware of the unfailing pnnciple
of the relative level, where the law of cause and effect of
wholesome and harmful actions and interdependent origination
is effective in the unhindered dynamic expression
of appearances. Even if their realization is as vast as space,
they are extremely conscientious in their conduct and train
to unite the two levels, being concerned about auspicious
coincidence. They train themselves on the path of union of
view and conduct without ever moving out of emptiness. One
may argue, "But was it not explained before that one should
be without rejection and acceptance?" Yes, that was explained
to dissolve the grasping at rejection and counteracting. This
present explanation takes into consideration the relative
aspect and is supposed to prevent beginners who take these
concepts too literally, to get into destructive talk.

What are your views on karma, cause and effect?
if you harm another you will be subject to retribution. even a buddha should not resist physical violence with physical violence (he shames himself). yet we are told that zen's second patriarch disrobed and lived a mundane life.

im not worried about cause and effect, but i do not ignore them.

wrong views are held by those who still have views. to the person who still has views these will be harmful. to the person who is not attached to anything they are a reminder of places where he has been. the thing is not to identify with or as anything (until you let go of that too.).

a buddha though free, commits no harmful actions. he is in harmony with things as they are.

a buddha rejects and counteracts what is harmful, he is concerned by these things but not worried by them.

emptiness is not nothingness, a time comes where emptiness has crystalised into substantive 'reality'. it is no longer seen, but it is still known. all has become real. all has become one.

to say that one should be without accepting and rejecting is to reject ones humanity and is a contrivance, not natural. if the buddha found a meal bitter he would eat only a little (so i speculate).

cause and effect are significant, still, i say i am concerned with cause and effect, but not worried by it.

you will excuse me i hope if i am unable to reply to you'r posts. i am staying with my Parents and so have access to the net. i dont want to loose my equanimity through getting involved in discussing concepts and wish to give my undivided attention to my Mum and Dad.

i will however reply if i am able to until tomorrow afternoon (but that is unlikely).

Vasana, you are excellent, but please dont waste your time on me. you will only hear a zen argument. better to study zen, than argue with a beginner.

your's with respect, Tom.
