Hi all,
I have been a student of Tibetan Buddhism for the past 3 - 4 years with an emphasis over the past year or so on Dzogchen. For various reasons, I am finding a broadening disconnect both between the teachings of Dzogchen and the practice as well as a disconnect between Dzogchen and my own personal experience. I do not mean to criticize Dzogchen as I still have a great heart for its teachings and their direction and certainly have great respect for Dzogchen overall. That said, I am finding it lacking when I start to think critically about the practice.
From what I can ascertain, I can see that Dzogchen and Zen likely share some similarities, but where they differ will likely be of great benefit to my own personal study and practice.
Does anyone have any recommendations on teachers, books, or authors regarding Zen Buddhism? Any feedback is greatly appreciated!
Thank you!
Matt

1 Myriad dharmas are only mind.
Mind is unobtainable.
What is there to seek?
2 If the Buddha-Nature is seen,
there will be no seeing of a nature in any thing.
3 Neither cultivation nor seated meditation —
this is the pure Chan of Tathagata.
