Lopön Trinley Nyima Rinpoche

Post by kalden yungdrung »

Tashi delek

The Menri Ponlop Rinpoche is the head teacher in Menri Monastery / Dolanji.
Menri Monastery is the main Bön Monastery worldwide and the residence of the Leader of all Bönpos, His Holiness the 33rd Menri Trizin Rinpoche.

I was pleased when i saw that the head teacher of Menri Monastery, Lopön Menri Rinpoche would be the successor of the Bön Yongdzin Rinpoche.

Menri Lopon Trinley Nyima Rinpoche is the principal instructor at Menri Monastery in Dolanji, India.
He was born in 1962 in the Dolpo region of north-western Nepal in the remote Himalayan village of Chharka.

He is the successor of Yongzin Tenzin Namdak Rinpoche.

Rinpoche’s family name is “Yangton” which traces its ancestry back to Yangton Sherab Gyaltsen, born in 1077. A famous Dzogchen and Tantric master, Yangton Sherab Gyaltsen was the first to set in writing the Dzogchen Experiential Transmission (Zhang Zhung Nyam Gyud). This revered teaching is taught today by Menri Lopon as well as other well known Bön masters such as Yongzin Tenzin Namdak Rinpoche.

In ancient times the Dolpo region was part of the Zhang-Zhung kingdom and is still home to the culture and language of Zhang-Zhung. Menri Lopon’s village of Chharka has been the home of one the most precious and secret Bönpo monasteries for the lineage of Yangton lamas – Tarzong Phuntsok Ling Monastery. When Menri Lopon was a child it was the only place people could study traditional education and the Tibetan language.

On advice from his uncle, Yangton Lama Nyima Tseten, Lopon Rinpoche completed a series of three-month retreats beginning at the age of thirteen. These retreats spanned the period from 1975 through 1977, during which he focused on the practices for the outer, inner and secret deities of the Bön. He also completed the foundation practices of Dzogchen by accumulating nine hundred thousand preliminary practices. In addition, he received various Transmissions and Empowerments of Dzogchen teachings from several masters.

In 1979 Rinpoche was brought to Menri Monastery in India by his cousin Lama Tashi. Menri is the main monastery for Tibetan Bönpo and for the exiled Bön community of India. He was ordained by His Holiness, the 33rd Menri Trizin (abbot) and His Eminence, Yongzin Tenzin Namdak Rinpoche. His studies focused primarily on Sutra, Tantra, and Dzogchen and also included Ritual, Grammar, Poetry, Astrology, Divination, Medicine, Thangka painting, Mandalas, and Stupas. He earned his Geshe Doctoral Degree from the Bön Dialectic School in 1989.

Soon after completing his degree, Rinpoche began teaching at the school and in 1992 was appointed Lopon, principal instructor, of the Bön Dialectic School by H.H. the 33rd Menri Trizin and H.E. Yongzin Rinpoche. The position of Lopon is the second most revered position at this monastery.

Lopon Rinpoche continues to teach at the Bön Dialectic School where he is responsible for student training. He occasionally visits the Dolpo region to give Transmission of Preliminary practice and to teach other aspects of the Bön religion to thousands of lay people, monks and Tantric practitioners. He also regularly visits the United States and Europe where he enjoys teaching Sutra, Tantra and Dzogchen to Western practitioners.

Both come from Dolpo / Nepal. In Dolpo there are many Bönpos and Nyingmapas, who are married. It is a very unique situation in Dolpo.

Tashi delek,

Menri Lopon Rinpoche, head teacher of Menri Monastery, is nearing completion of an Encyclopedia of Bön Religion.
Menri Ponlop Rinpoche - Encyclopedia of Bon..jpg
Menri Ponlop Rinpoche - Encyclopedia of Bon..jpg (215.37 KiB) Viewed 8106 times
Lopon Rinpoche’s new encyclopedia contains more than12000 different entries, which include a comprehensive set of articles and definitions employed in the Bön religion and by Bönpo practitioners. Even the largest reference works currently available in Tibetan or English do not include most of the information that will be available in this new work. Entries include:

- Tibetan and Zhang Zhung words and terminology specific to the Bön religion
- Biographies of Bonpo scholars and practitioners, both historical and contemporary
- Descriptions of significant places in Bön history
- Descriptions of Bön religious symbols, images and objects
- Names and descriptions of Bön deities
- Scholars of Tibetan culture regularly have problems understanding the language in texts of the Bön religion because such texts use words that are often different, or have different meanings, than the terminology used by Tibetan Buddhists. In 2001,

Lopon Rinpoche traveled to Portland, Oregon to work with Donatella Rossi in translating a book about Bön; at that time, he realized that there was a great need for a reference work specifically concerning the Bön religion, so in the same year, he commenced work on the Encyclopedia, which has grown to over 2000 pages.

A work of this scope on this subject has never been published before. The Encyclopedia is in the Tibetan language, but after initial publication, Lopön Rinpoche hopes to have it translated into English.

We have begun collecting donations to help with translating and publishing this book in English. Any amount would be a great help and greatly appreciated.

IN ADDITION:

Yangton Lama Lineage

ཡང་སྟོན་བླ་མའི་གདུང་རབས།

The Yangton lineage is believed to go back to the time of Buddha Tonpa Shenrap more than 18,000 years ago, and is thought to be traceable to Yangton Sherap Gyaltsen, who was born in 1077. Today, Yangton Lamas both care for the Yaggon Monastery and students who reside there, as well as help share the precious teachings of Bön Buddhism worldwide.

The Yangton Lineage is very important in Bön History. During the time of Tönpa Shenrab Miwoche (ca. 16016 B.C.E.),
- Sinbon Yangngal and Yangngal Gyimgongwa were his students.

During the time of the first Tibetan king Nyatri Tsenpo (1136 B.C.E.), Yangngal Sidpai Shen was the first priest of the kingdom.
In the year 1077 Yangton Sherab Gyaltsen was born. During his lifetime he received Dzogchen teachings from Ronggom Togmed Zhigpo. Subsequently Dzogchen has become the main practice of the Yangton Lineage.

The Yangton Lineage appeared in Dolpo through Yangngel Lama Ngagpa in the 12th century. While Yangngel Lama Ngagpa was traveling in Tibet he found Yangton Gyaltsen Rinchen, then just an 8 year old child. Yangngel took Yangton under his wing and took him to Dolpo. Yangton Gyaltsen Rinchen was the teacher of the 10th Yeru Tönpa Druchen Gyalwa Yungdrung, teaching him the secret Dzogchen teachings of the Zhang Zhung Nyan Gyud. From there, these teachings spread throughout Tibet.

In modern times, the Yangton Lineage is represented in the current Menri Monastery in Dolanji, India by H.E. Yangton Ponlob Trinley Nyima Rinpoche. Several Yangton Lamas (see below) travel extensively in the western world to help bring these ancient teachings to practitioners in the west. The Yangton Lineage is also still present in Dolpo, where Lamas of this lineage still reside and practice diligently, realizing and propagating the Dzogchen teachings of ancient times.

Tashi delek Bönpos,

The 34th Menri Trizin Rinpoche will be very soon enthroned , at Tashi Menri Monastery.

Below the visions from H.E. the Menri Ponlop Rinpoche.

Tashi delek,

Yes indeed, Menri Pönlop Rinpoche Trinle Nyima, is now the Menri Yongdzin Rinpoche, like i already voted long time before.

The title Yongdzin is given to the Menri Monastery.
Lopon Tenzin Namdak was before the Yongdzin Rinpoche of Tashi Menri Monastery.

Menri Pönlop Rinpoche Trinle Nyima already teached in Nagarkot the Zhang Zhung Nyengyud already.
viewtopic.php?f=78&t=19371&start=20

Big Congratulations! Geshe Dawa Dargye Rinpoche became the new Menri Trizin (34th) today through the divinely electoral ritual at Menri monastery.

Sherdub Ponlob Geshe Gelek Gyatso (Togdhen Namgyal) Rinpoche appeared to the 2nd position.

In this way, HE Menri Ponlob Trinley Nyima Rinpoche is designated automatically as the new "Menri Yongzin".

IN Addition:

Here follows an additional biography of the Menri Yongdzin Rinpoche:

Rinpoche was born on the 12th day of the 1st Tibetan month of the year 1962 in the small Himalayan village of Tsakha in the Dolpo region of northwest Nepal. Many years ago, the Dolpo region was a part of the Zhang-Zhung kingdom. In the Dolpo region we can still find the culture and language of Zhang-Zhung.

There is a small Bönpo Monastery in his village called Tarzong Phuntsok Ling Bönpo Monastery. It was the only place where people can study traditional education as well as the Tibetan language. Yangton Lama is the abbot of Tarzong Phuntsok Ling Bonpo monastery.

This monastery is one of the most precious and secret monasteries for the lineage of Yangton lamas. Lopon Rinpoche is a member of the famous lineage of Yangton lamas. The Yangton lineage goes back to the time of Buddha Tönpa Shenrab over 18,000 years ago. Yangton lamas were the priests for the ancient kings of Tibet. Yang n’gal Tsec Cho was the priest for Nyatri Tsenpo, the 1st king of Tibet. The Yangton Lama Yang n’gal, who was the priest of the Tibetan King Pude Gungyal, established the first Yangton Monastery at Bönri in the Kongpo region of Tibet.

The Yangton lineage originated after the great practitioner Yangton Sherab Gyaltsen became famous for the perfection of his understanding and excellence in Sutra, Tantra and Dzogchen Teachings. Through his studies he compiled the essence of Dzogchen teaching and created the first written manuscript of the Dzogchen Experiential Transmission (Nyam-Gyud) teaching. In 1107 AD he became the single Transmission holder of Dzogchen teaching.

At the age of 13 and on the advice from his uncle Yangton Lama Nyima Tseten, Lopon Rinpoche went into a series of 3 months retreats during 1975, 1976 and 1977. During this time he focused on the practices for the outer, inner and secret Deities of Bön. During these retreats Rinpoche completed the foundation practices of Dzogchen by accumulating 900.000 preliminary practices. He also received various Transmissions and Empowerments of Dzogchen teachings from a variety of different masters.

In 1979, Lopon Rinpoche’s brother, Lama Tashi, brought Rinpoche to sMenri Monastery in India. sMenri Monastery is the main Bönpo monastery for Tibet as well as for the exile community of India. Rinpoche was ordained by H.H. the 33rd sMenri Trizin and H.E. Yongzin Rinpoche. His studies focused on Sutra, Tanta and Dzogchen as well as Ritual, Grammar, Poetry, Astrology, Divination, Medicine, Thangka painting, Mandalas and Stupas. Lopon obtained his Geshe Degree (Doctorate) from the Bön Dialectic School in 1989.

Soon after completing his Geshe Degree, Rinpoche was unanimously appointed Principle Instructor of the Bön Dialectic School by H.H. the 33rd Mentri Trizin and H.E. Yongzin Rinpoche.

Again in 1992, His Holiness and Yongzin Rinpoche further honored Rinpoche by giving him the title of Ponlob. It is the 2nd most revered position in sMenri Monastery.

Lopon Rinpoche continues to teach at the Bön Dialectic School where he is responsible for the training of the students. He occasionally visits the Dolpo region of Nepal to give the Transmission of Preliminary Practice and teach other aspects of the Bön Religion to thousands of lay people, monks and Tantric practitioners.

Rinpoche regularly visits the United States and Europe where he enjoys teaching the elements of Sutra, Tantra and Dzogchen to western practitioners. In 2009 he founded the Bön Center Khyungdzong Wodsel Ling in Los Angeles, in the United States.
