Tashi delek ,

It is a great lost for us, the passing of our His Holiness as Leader and Yungdrung Sempa.

He was to me always like a daddy and i like His Holiness very much because he is /was always so kind and helpful a realised Yungdrung Sempa.

I will never forget my daily drinking a cup of tea, with His Holiness , at Tashi Menri Monastery.
But i do not mourn i know His Holiness is in a good State so there are no problems at all, that is what i can feel .

Greetings to everyone,

We are in the 6th week following His Holiness Gyalwa Menri Trizin 33rd’s passing in Menri Monastery, India. Upon departing this life, he remained in the contemplation pose in his residence for five days. This is very significant, as only lamas who have attained the highest achievement in meditation are able to stay in the meditation position without breath.

I am still at Menri Monastery accompanying the 49 days of prayer.

Current activities surrounding the 49 days of prayer in the monastery are as follows.

In the main temple from 4 in the morning until 6 in the evening with a little break time, nearly 100 monks are performing the Zhi Troe prayer which is the entire ensemble of 45 peaceful deities and 81 wrathful deities god and goddess prayers.

In the Nunnery temple from 4am to 6pm with a break from time to time, around 85 nuns are praying Tsewang Bhoyul Ma which are Tibetan ritual prayers of the great 7th century master lama Tsewang Rigzin.

At the residence of His Holiness (Labrang), geshes and high lamas are praying all day from 4am to 6pmthe Rigzin Dhupa prayer which means invoking all yogi and yogini.

In the Sipi Gyalmo main protector chapel, ten high practitioners are praying the Yidam Walchen Ghe Khoi prayer which means goddess of the solar chakra.

6 monks are cleaning bone from the ashes and making a memorial stupa constructed from mud.
It is very emotional to collect the bone, as you are touching your hand on the bone and imagining that it is His Holiness.

We miss him very much, however we are sure in knowing he is blessing and always with us even as invisible.
Keep prayer and every Saturday try to light some candles and offer fresh flowers to His picture.

November 4th is the 49th day, and here in Menri whoever attends we will give a small piece of bone as protection for yourself or family.

And keep praying His Holiness’ prayer at least 50 times per day until November 8th.
Much blessing from Menri directly to everyone, and he is always with us.

Thank you.
Chongtul Rinpoche

IN ADDITION:

We cordially invite you to the Bon Shen Ling Temple on November 4th from 2-5pm for prayer on the final day of 49 days following His Holiness Gyalwa Menri Trizin 33rd’s passing.

There will be prayer and a meal, and all are welcome to share your blessing with each other in memory of His Holiness. RSVP no later than Nov 2nd required for attendance. Visit www.bonshenling.org to register.

Chongtul Rinpoche is sorry he cannot be there that day, as he will still be at Menri in India for the conclusion of the 49 days prayer for His Holiness. Khenpo Tenzin Dhargye will be present to lead the prayers.

In Tibetan tradition, the 3rd day after passing is the inter-state of the Nature of mind, the time of Bon Nyi Woe Sal Gyi Bar Dho.
Then His Holiness will travel in blessing to help the different realms.

The 1st week by immeasurable Love wisdom is travel to the Hell realm which means enlightening frustration.
The 2nd week by immeasurable primordial wisdom is travel to help the Hungry Ghost realm which means enlightening greed.
The 3rd week by immeasurable awareness wisdom is travel to the Animal realm which means enlightening ignorance.
The 4th week by immeasurable compassion wisdom is travel to the Human realm which means enlightening impoverishment.
The 5th week by immeasurable peaceful wisdom is travel to the Demi-God realm which means enlightening overflow.
The 6th week by immeasurable all-knowing wisdom is travel to the God realm which means enlightening argument.
The 7th week by the immeasurable five wisdoms is travel to the six intermediate realms which means enlightening hanging in the empty illusion of realizing.

On the 49th day, His Holiness will finalize his temporary helping of these 6 samsara realms and continue on to live in Nirvana with Buddha and bodhisattva.

The 49th day is November 4th, and we shall all sit together and pray for continuation of blessings and to remind us of our samsara world.

Hi everyone,

We are in the seventh week of His Holiness Gyalwa Menri Trizin 33rd’s passing at Menri Monastery, Dolanji, India at his residence. His Holiness remained sitting upright in contemplation poses for five days after he passed, such as only highly achieved lamas are able to do --- remaining in meditation position without breath.

The 7th week is when His Holiness is blessing and traveling to the Six Bardo (Intermediate state) realms. For regular people the 49th day is the most important time after death for choosing another life or to remain in one of the bardos for a longer time.

For His Holiness Rinpoche, the 49th day is the special day that he will give blessings to and connect with all those who have been meditating on him. On this occasion, on the 4th of November at 5:30 p.m. I would like to remind you to light candles/butter lamps and place fresh flowers in front of a photo of His Holiness.

If you have anything you have received in the past - something blessed by His Holiness – blessing cords, amulets, mendup, mala, statues, etc. - please put them in front of his photo which represents his presence with you.

If you can, place 7 bowls or cups of fresh water sprinkled with fresh flower petals, along with incense in a holder in front of the shrine as well, and sit on a comfortable cushion for ten minutes without chanting, bringing back memories of His Holiness in your life. Feel free to cry, which will purify your negative karma and increase your life energy.

Then chant the prayer for His Holiness until 6:30 p.m. Follow that with the dedication prayers and believe that you have been blessed and that you have helped the dreams of His Holiness to come true and that his works will be remembered and his blessings will last forever.

I am still in Menri monastery for the 49 days prayer ceremonies. On the 4th of November we are having the ritual of great lamas which takes 2 hours, and is done continuously 5 times on that day. Besides that, there are the special rituals in the main temple to purify and bless the bones and relics of His Holiness retrieved after the cremation, to be later used to fill the Stupas and his memorial statues. The ancient Tibetan tradition is that people wish to get a small piece of bone to make a special protection amulet which they will wear to keep a special connection with His Holiness for protection, or put it on their shrine in a transparent container in hope that their prayers will produce small relics like crystal or diamond on the bone. This brings blessings and protection of the environment of the community where they live and brings all things into balance for that place and the world.

On the night of the 4th, prayers will be said all night until 4 in the morning. On the 5th there will be prayers all day and everyone will come to the temple and this will continue until midnight.

Current activities at monastery have been 49 days continuous prayer:

In the main temple from morning at 4 a.m. to evening 6 p.m. with small breaks the zhi troe prayer is being recited by 100 monks to the entire constellation of 45 peaceful deities and the 86 wrathful deities and gods and goddesses.

At the Nunnery temple 85 nuns are praying the Tibetan version of the Tsewang bhoyul Ma rituals which is to one of the great masters of the 7th century, lama Tsewang Rigzin - from 4am-6 pm with breaks from time to time.

At the residence of His Holiness (Labrang), geshes and high lamas are praying all day from 4 a.m. to 6 p.m. the Rigzin Dhupa prayers which invokes all yogis and yoginis.

We miss His Holiness very much and feel like orphans, but we are sure, on the other hand, that he is with us in spirit and continues to bless us always even though he is no longer physically with us.

Many blessings from Menri you all and know that His Holiness is with us always.

Thank you

Chongtul Rinpoche

Dear Sangha brothers and sisters,

Today, 4th of November is the 49th day of passing of H.H. Menri Tridzin Rinpoche, spiritual head of the Bön tradition, into nirvana. It is a very important day for all of us to remember him, to connect with the practice of Guru Yoga and perform prayers to fulfill his enlightened wishes.

I would like to recall some of my experiences during my stay at Menri monastery from Sept. 9th to Oct. 3rd and share them with you. I was fortunate to be with him five days before his demise during which I could offer a mandala to him on behalf of Yongdzin Rinpoche and the Triten Norbutse monastic community.

H.H. the 33rd Menri Tridzin Rinpoche passed into nirvana on the 14th of September 2017. It is a great loss for the Bön tradition and its followers. We are all deeply saddened. But his passing away in the state of meditation was absolutely inspiring and a great source of devotion and joy.

After his last breath, he remained in the meditative state for five days with perfect radiance of face. All the people present there felt incredible sense of peace, devotion and inspiration so even the grief of the situation was lightened. I was fortunate to be among many others to experience this numinous moment.

His Holiness dedicated whole his life to uplifting and transmitting Bön doctrine and helping people including numerous orphans through providing care and education. Since his enthronement as the abbot of Menri monastery, for forty-eight years H.H. assumed the position of the spiritual leader of Yungdrung Bön tradition, tirelessly preserving the Bön in every aspect. Spiritual discipline, compassion and selfless dedication were in the core of his existence.

His effort of bringing harmony and friendship among other spiritual tradition was highly treasured by all the Tibetan spiritual leaders.

Now it is our turn to keep his presence in our heart, speech and body and continue his legacy.

Finally I would like to encourage you all to recite the Nine-syllable mantra of clarity as much as you can:

Aa A-KAR SA LE Ö A YANG OM DU.

Khenpo Tenpa Yungdrung

-------------------------------------------------

The lamas and all the community present at Shenten Dargye Ling will be reciting Thaye Monlam Prayer
this afternoon starting 3 PM.
