Zhang Zhung Culture
Tahi delek,
Professor Shawa Tongme , gives a lecture about the Gyarong area in Tibet with its 18 areas or kingdoms.
It is the cultural area of Zhang Zhung.
18 is a meaningful number and stems from the cosmological story of the "egg".

Tashi delek,
Great news for the Bön history !
A large collection of Bönpo texts, containing 4648 pages about astrology and Bönpo ritual was recently discovered in the Kankho and Drukchu regions of Tibet.
These texts were preserved by a 98 year old man who claims that they are artifacts from the Zhang Zhung culture. He stored them in a cave behind his village during the Chinese revolution. Their authenticity as Zhang Zhung relics is currently being examined by a team of researchers, as depicted in these photos.

Tashi delek,
Geshe Gelek Jinpa travelled in Mustang where he reported on the cultural traditions of the local Bönpo population, and he discovered ancient library in the caves of Mardzang. Bön is the native spiritual and cultural tradition of Tibet and Himalayan borderlands.

Re: Zhang Zhung Culture
Tashi delek,
Bön translated many text out of the Zhang Zhung Language.
This ZZ language was the forerunner of the modern Tibetan script and in the Bön literature one can regarding the text conclude if it is an original Bön text or an adopted text.
So if the question arises if Tibet would have a script from before 760, then this can be affirmed with yes.
So Bön has many words and terms which are unknown in the Tibetan Language and script.

Tashi delek,
18 Zhang Zhung Kingdoms, once a huge area in Tibet.
The armies of these Kingdoms were bigger than that of the Central Tibetan King.
Reason for the central Tibetan King to "conquer" these Kingdoms and one step further to conquer China.
Below the map of Zhang Zhung by: Samten G. Karmay.

Tashi delek,
Zhang Zhung Culture knows also Dzogchen and their Lineage is very old and precious.
It goes back to the Adi Buddha Kuntu Zangpo, "all" Dzogchen Lineages go back to this Buddha.
