Lishu Institute / Dehra Dun / India

Post by kalden yungdrung »

Tashi delek,

With many thanks to Cheri Brady

Lishu Institute was founded by Tenzin Wangyal Rinpoche who is the spiritual master of Ligmincha international, the biggest Bön foundation within Bön.

Here in Dehra Dun, Tenzin Wangyal Rinpoche realized a Bön Institute , where one can go for a Teachers course of 6 years in blocks of 5 months, or all together in about 3 years. This is super professional

So this will be for serious Bönpos an opportunity to get full educated in the Bön Lineage.
This Institute is full recognized by the Indian Government, that means one is assured of a study visa .

LISHU INSTITUTE / DEHRA DUN - INDIA:

A Registered Charitable Society

Lishu Institute is a Registered Charitable Society of India with a constituted governing body. Lishu is the vision of its spiritual director, Tenzin Wangyal Rinpoche, whose heartfelt wish is to preserve the precious spiritual and cultural traditions of Tibet. In January 2009 Lishu Institute became owner of land in Kotra Kalyanpur outside of Dehradun, UK, India.

During 2012 the first new building was constructed to provide several classrooms for initial instruction and house up to 10 students and a small faculty as other construction continues. When complete, the Lishu Institute compound will include a large main building that will house the teaching hall (gompa), library, classrooms, dining room, kitchens, laundry, teachers' residences, and dorm rooms for three-year students.

The compound will also include a store, a cafe, a small relaxation area, and additional dormitories for married students and teachers as well as for individuals engaged in long-term practice retreats, karma yoga retreats, and translation and research projects.

University level Education of the Bon Doctrine

The Lishu Institute program provides learners with an in-depth study of the Bön tradition. The curriculum consists of the three main texts of the Bön tradition: The 9 Ways of Bön, Zhang Zhung Nyen Gyud (The Oral Transmission from Zhang Zhung), and Ma Gyu (The Mother Tantra) as well as Tibetan language, Tibetan yoga and practice/meditation.

Lishu Institute’s teachers are extremely qualified masters. More information about them.

Residential Program: Students relocate to the Lishu Institute campus located in North India (click here for the exact location). Students follow a full-time program, are free from distractions and can take full advantage of the Lishu Institute campus, which is in a prime location with all the attributes that make it conducive to study and practice including clean, fresh air, gorgeous panoramic views of the Dehradun valley and the Shivalik mountain range, to name a few. Students are provided with room and board, and three meals per day.

Flexibility: Courses will be offered in 2.5-month blocks, which can be taken consecutively or not. For example, a student may elect to attend one 2.5-month block per year over a period of 6-9 years, after which he/she would have completed the full program. Students will benefit from the possibility to take as many 2.5-month blocks as they can per year, depending on their personal circumstances. The ideal choice is to take consecutive blocks of the Residential Program until completion, but since many people have limitations of several kinds which prevent them from undertaking that sort of schedule, students may design their program as they see fit.

One of the Lishu Institute’s main goals is to develop future leaders and teachers to preserve and spread the Bön tradition in the West.

General Requirements: Students must be mentally and physically fit. Students should not have any mental or physical illnesses which would interfere with their study, practice or interaction with teachers and fellow students.

Specific Requirements: Students must relocate to Lishu Institute at their own cost.

Scholarship programs will be administered by local Sanghas. Applying to the Lishu Institute and applying for a scholarship are two separate processes. Interested practitioners who demonstrate a financial need must first apply for admission to the Lishu Institute and after being accepted, must apply for a scholarship with their local Sangha.

Tashi delek,

Here a nice documentary about the LIshu Institute in Dehra Dhun / India.
It is one of the best places to study Bön and Tibetan Language.
The prices are affordable.

One can study blocks of 2.5 months, sequential or all together. All together it will take 3 years to finish the study.
When absolved one can function as a "teacher" / Lama somewhere in the world.

Dr. Sangmo Yangri - 00.jpg

This week get to know the unique backgrounds of Lishu Institute's main teachers: Geshe Sherab Lodoe and PhD. Sangmo Yangri.

Dr. Sangmo Yangri was born in Solan close to the Menri Monstary in India. From early childhood, she has been immersed in the Bön tradition and culture as her father was a close friend and disciple of His Holiness Menri Trinzin Lungtok Tenpa Nyima Rinpoche and His Eminence Menri Yongdzin Lopon Tenzin Namdak Rinpoche.

She received her master degree in Bön philosophy in 2007 with a thesis on 'the 12 Interdependent origination in Bön tradition' at the university of Central University of Tibetan Studies in Varanasi in India, she then completed a M.Phil degree in Buddhism philosophy, where she wrote her M.Phil thesis on the 'The lineage of Bhikshuni ordination in Bön tradition'.

At the university (CUTS) where the 5 Tibetan schools were represented (Bön, Nyingma, Sakya, Kagyu and Gelug) the other four schools had PhD students, whereas nobody did such in depth studies in the Bön tradition. She felt, this was missing and felt it would serve the preservation of the Bon tradition and inspire other students, especially female students, to do a PhD in Bön tradition. Indeed, in all the 5 schools, before Sangmo Yangri, only one female student did a PhD. She completed her Ph.D in Bön and Buddhism traditions in 2013; her PhD thesis dealt with the 'Analysis of the traditional exposition of the way in which the world came into existence according to Bön tradition and Buddhism'. She obtained the grant from the Jawaharlal Nehru Memorial Fund for two years and in 2013, her work was awarded by the Prime Minister Award (Sikyong Award) from Tibetan Exile Government in India.

She has written and published several articles in different journals:

- (Bon-go the periodical journal of Menri monastery
- journal of Zhangzhung cum Tibetan culture
- Mutri tsenpo, ligmincha Europe magazine
- Tibet times, www.theyungdrungbon.com
- www.himalayabon.com

Moreover, she has been invited several times as a speaker at the Yungdrung Bön Camping in Menri Monsatery, and has participated to several international Bon and Buddhism conferences. She was interviewed on VOA Tibetan for her achievement. She also edited the book of the great scholar Palden Tsultrim 'A commentary on the Three Ornaments of poetry'.

Before starting teaching at Lishu Institute in 2015, she taught on voluntary basis at the Ratna Menling nunnery in Dolanji for one year, gave guidance to all the bon philosophy nuns students and prepared new study materials for them. In 2015, she was appointed teacher at the Lishu Institute by Geshe Tenzin Wangyal Rinpoche and has given lectures on the Nine Ways of Bön, the hagiography of Buddha Tonpa Sherab Miwo and Tibetan language.

Tashi delek,

Tummo as a basic for Dream Yoga.

In Dream Yoga one must master the Lung in the Channels in favor to be able to penetrate the Chakras, like for instance the throat and heart chakras, which are used in the different phases of the sleep process .

Tummo skill, is mostly the very bases in many practice like Phowa.

Tashi delek,

The spring program of Lishu Institute is ready.

Students can go for:

- A Tri Phowa
- Zhang Zhung Nyengyud Dzogchen

Regarding the ZZNG Dzogchen cycle of teachings, this will be like always explained according the Gyalwa Chaktri.

All in all a very complete and nice to follow program.
It is for beginners (greenhorns with not so much insight, experience, Wisdom etc.), but like always motivation is gold.
But this is also nice for advanced / experienced students :namaste:
