Post by morgan727 »

Lake Namtso is the most important holy lake in Bon, and is also the second largest lake in Tibet. According to the legend, Namtso is the daughter of Indra(a guardian deity in Buddhism) and the wife of Nyenchen Tanglha. In the ancient Tibetan mythology, the Pantheon of Bon or Tibetan Buddhism, the folk songs and legends, Nyenchen Tanglha and Namtso are not only the holy mountain and sacred lake in Tibet. They are soul mates, as they are getting more and more magnificent and beautiful by associating together. The Mount Tanglha guard his beautiful wife stilly on the other side of the lake with his towering body for thousands of years.

Tashi delek M 727,

Agree the lake Namtso belongs to the Bön culture.
Later it was also a common place for the Tibetan Buddhist Traditions.

The Tibetan Sarma Traditions started with Guru Rinpoche visiting the lake. Milarepa, Rechungpa, Padampa Sangye visited and practised also at the Namtso lake.
