"The History of the Bodhanath Stupa: Liberation by Hearing" - Translations?

Post by emaho » Sat Sep 02, 2017 5:24 pm

Hi,

I'm starting to read this book:

A Classical Tibetan Reader: Selections from Renowned Works

and since I'm not very good at reading Tibetan-only texts, I will need translations of the texts to check if my own attempt is correct.

The first text is a chapter from the text "The History of the Bodhanath Stupa: Liberation by Hearing". Unfortunately the only translation I can find is very far from being literal (Keith Dowman: Boudhanath: The Great Stupa).

Are there any other translations?

I have been to Bodnath stupa! Very good vibes in this area. Lots of monks who reside in the nearby temples, and restaurants with good food and souvenir shops also. Everyone should go there.

Yes. And it's really a pity there is no literal translation available, especially since it's a terma text by Guru Rinpoche.

Meanwhile I've read that this is a standard text for students of Tibetology at many Universities worldwide. Would maybe somebody who studied this text at University like to share his or her translation?
