We are pleased to announce that starting in January of 2017, a six-week English online Dharma course on Patrul Rinpoche’s Instructions to Oneself will be offered by respected Dharma teachers from Larung Gar Buddhist Academy. The teaching will be based on Khenpo Sodargye Rinpoche’s commentary.
About Instructions to Oneself
Instructions to Oneself is a set of instructions that Patrul Rinpoche devised to guide his own spiritual practice. They are profound and essential instructions that every Buddhist practitioner should practice accordingly.
By learning Instructions to Oneself, students will receive important advises from an exceptional master. The instructions represent clear and precise “do’s and don’ts” that can help boost one’s daily Dharma practice and improve one’s advancement onto the path. The instructions are accessible and implementable. Their wisdom covers various aspects of the life of a Dharma practitioner regarding the things they should remember, the things they should avoid, and the things they should conceal.
About Patrul Rinpoche
Patrul Rinpoche, the author of The Words of My Perfect Teacher, was one of the most prominent spiritual masters of the Nyingma school in Tibetan Buddhism in the 19th century. He was the emanation of Bodhisattva Avalokiteshvara and Bodhisattva Shantideva.
During his lifetime, he studied innumerable works related both sutra and tantra. In particular He received instruction on the Longchen Nyingtik Ngondro no less than twenty-five times under his spiritual teacher, and completed the required practices the same number of times. While remaining for long periods in the Yamantaka Cave and the Long Life cave, he devoted himself into the practice of meditation and attained a realization that was as vast as space. Then he gave Dharma teaching to countless people uninterruptedly until he passed into Parinirvana.
