Meditation is the practice and gateway for any spiritual practitioner. Meditation increases awareness and leads us through calm abiding and insight wisdom, to a deepening of stability, appreciation and happiness. We get to stop and look inward and find a different view.

The first day of this course will be an introduction to the Shakya Shri meditation lineage and Gyeltshen Tulku Rinpoche has been requested to teach on the developmental stages of this path in order to assist us in contextualising our meditation practices. His Eminence is one of the most learned and practiced contemporary spiritual masters of Bhutan. He purely holds the Shakya Shri yogic lineage and has mastered the Six Yogas of Naropa.

The following three evenings will be devoted to practice – it is vital to know exactly what we are doing when we meditate! Those who have been engaged in the daily practices with Khandro Rinpoche, as well as those interested in meditation generally, will find these teachings instructive, inspiring and illuminating.

May 24 at 7.30pm, Thursday
Public Talk - 'Fearless Spirituality'
Venue: Buddhist Library,

Spirituality is the inner aspect of our being. Developing awareness of this without judgement or retraction from the truth, gives us the depth and strength to be able to deal with life’s sufferings courageously. This dance between the outer conditions and the inner strength is the true path of the spiritual practitioner and essential in living a meaningful life.

Shakya Shri (1853-1919) was an accomplished master of the Mahamudra and Dzogchen traditions. He was recognised as one of the 25 accomplished disciples of Guru Padmasambhava and he is the great-grandfather of Khandro Rinpoche. This mind terma was directly transmitted from Guru Padmasambhava to Shaka Shri during meditation, flowing spontaneously from his mind. Such a direct and profound teaching on compassion is very relevant in these turbulent and chaotic times.

15 June Friday 7.30pm
"Stabilising Mind and Emotion through Meditation and Daily Life"
Public Talk/Introductory Evening
Venue - Urangan Community Centre, Botanic Gardens, Elizabeth St , Urangan

Most people hold the view that spirituality is separate from our daily activities. However the real value of spirituality is to bring awareness and care into every thought, word and deed. There is nowhere to escape to – rather we must with diligence and mindfulness, open to the depth of every moment, wherever we are. This requires respect for oneself, living a life of no inner or outer deception.

17 June Sunday 10-4pm
Day Teaching Workshop
Venue - Urangan Community Centre, Botanic Gardens, Elizabeth St , Urangan

Khandrola will follow on from the evening talk by introducing participants to reflection and meditation. Meditation trains us to stop for a moment and look deeply into our mundane life. We are led by our reactive habits and emotions and do not have control, especially in chaotic times, over our monkey mind. Through this inward looking process we discover our own basic goodness, loaded like a jewel, with a dignity and honour, that will allow us to deal courageously with our shortcomings and life’s sufferings without feeling guilty. The workshop will be an opportunity to revitalize our relationship with inner serenity and rejuvenate our connection to our selves and our environment.

26 June Tuesday 6pm
Candlelight Puja
Daymon Park, Urangan

The Puja begins at 6.30pm but it is imperative to arrive at 6pm

This is a beautiful and healing practice from Khandro Rinpoche’s lineage which invites participants to invoke those in their lives who have died or are having difficulty, with the intent that their sufferings, pains, guilts and regrets are transformed into wisdom and compassion.

Please bring the names of those you wish to assist written on a piece of paper plus a monetary offering - both of which will form a part of the ceremony. We will also ceremoniously burn old prayer flags and Khandro Rinpoche will be requested to bless new ones. Stay and share food and drinks together afterwards - BYO. Just like last year!
