One of the more profound topics in Tendai philosophy is the view expounded by its founder, Ven. Chih-i, that each moment of consciousness contains within it three thousand distinct states of existence. To help us understand this in more detail, Rev.Dr. Ryoei, a Dai Ajari in the Tendai tradition, will be joining us from the California Tendai Learning Center. www.tendai-usa.org

This retreat is a silent retreat. No cost for participation.

Advance registration is required for all participants. Attendance is required for the duration of the entire retreat.
Registration to this retreat (or Eventbrite Ticket) does not reserve you a spot.
A confirmation email will be sent to participants who have signed-up and completed all registration steps below, once their application has been approved by management. All others are to be considered on a waiting list. If you register to stay overnight and decide not to attend, please inform us as soon as possible, so another person on the waiting list may come in your place.

NOTE: If you cannot make the retreat in person but would still like to hear the teachings, follow https://www.facebook.com/buddhistinsights/ and the lecture portion will be live broadcast (you can ask questions via Facebook) or you can check back later and watch the recordings.

ABOUT REV. DR. RYOEI TYLER
Rev. Ryoei Tyler received ordination at Entyakuji, the principle Tendai temple in Shiga Japan. She has fully completed the four-stage training (Shidoke-Gyo) with a teaching certificate at the Hieizan Gyoin training center on Mt. Hiei in Japan. She has the title of Grand Ajari, issued by Handa Koujyun Ozasu-sama, the head priest of Enryakuji. In addition to her Buddhist training, she also holds a Ph.D. in Pure Mathematics from the University of California. As a Tendai Buddhist teacher, she offers training to those who wish to become Tendai Priests, confers priest ordination, and gives further training after ordination. Dr. Tyler regularly offers sutra chanting, discussion sessions, Tendai meditation classes, dharani chanting, and sutra-copying classes for all who seek the teachings of the Buddha.

Chih-I:
The Tai-ching states "the women in the realms of Mara, Sakra and Brahma all neither abandoned ( their old) bodies nor received (new) bodies. They all received buddhahood with their current bodies (genshin)" Thus these verses state that the dharma nature is like a great ocean. No right or wrong is preached (within it) Ordinary people and sages are equal, without superiority or inferiority

I think it is auspicious that a mathematics professor will be teaching on this topic of Sanzen Butsudo.

I hope this event opens onto excellent outcomes for all involved.

Friendly reminder: this event is offered on a donation-only basis. It is not free, per se. Here is the policy:
There is no price tag to participate in this retreat, because it is offered on a Dana (generosity) basis: please donate what you can and what you wish in order to make the program available to other people. Please note that if you register and do not attend without giving us sufficient notice, you may be blacklisted from future events.
https://www.eventbrite.com/e/three-thou ... 7759623049

Generosity is one of the paramitas. If you value the teachings, support them to the best of your ability.

Bump. Any guidance on how to access the recording of this teaching?

Also: does anyone know if Rev. Ryoei Tyler will be invited to teach again by Buddhist Insights?
