Gyashi (4 Hundred Offerings) Puja
This is a puja where there are four hundred offerings to the 4 Maras in order to appease them and remove the negativities we have acquired, cure sicknesses and rid ourselves of misfortune. These 4 Maras are 1. Mara of the Son of God, 2. Mara of Defilements, 3. Mara of Death and 4. Mara of Form. These Maras represent the four types of obscurations; obscuration to knowledge and the obscurations of the five poisons, habitual tendencies and karmic causes.Participants are to pack a few strands of hair, nail clippings and a scrap of cloth worn previously. Prior to the puja, participants are to rub illnesses symbolically into a ball of dough. Please avoid the forehead and heart area.

The present Dupsing Rinpoche was born on the 17th November 1981 in Mundgod in the southern India.

Even before giving birth to Rinpoche, his mother Tselha Dolma had a dream about having a spiritual son in her womb. One night she was dreaming that 4 Bodhisattvas appeared in the sky, and took out their golden rope and placed it nicely on her womb, leaving a message for her saying that this son was very special and she should take very good care of him.

Suddenly, she woke up from her dream and felt very good afterwards. Few months after this, she gave birth to the son who later was recognized as the Dupsing Rinpoche tulku. At the age of two, he started talking, and telling everyone that he himself had 2 monasteries; one in Tibet and the other one in Nepal. Nobody cared much for this information.

Near the place where Rinpoche grew up, a small Kagyupa monastery was situated, and Rinpoche liked this very much. He often went there to visit and play the bell, damaru and other music instrument for the rituals.

Already when Rinpoche was 4 years old he wanted to become a monk, and his parents allowed him to do so. Rinpoche was ordained and officially declared as a monk by one great dharma practitioner in India.

During his life in the Monastery, Rinpoche was a very talented monk eager to learn ritual arts, chanting as well as being involved in many spiritual activities. The head of the Monastery, called Lama Dupgyud Rinpoche, found this young boy very special. As well as he perceived and treated him particularly special among others in the

After sometime His Holiness Shamar Rinpoche, and H.E. Tai Situ, and H.E. Goshir Gyaltsab Rinpoche recognised that boy as the previous Dupsing Rinpoche. Within one month’s time, his previous disciples from Pokhara came and welcomed him. They then requested his parents to allow them to bring Rinpoche back to his Monastery in Pokhara." onclick=";return false;

Hi Phantom59,

Just found your post now.
I read from your post above to pack few strands of hair, nail clippings and clothes worn previously. If I can ask what is the meaning and purpose to submit fingernail, hair and old clothes? And what will it do to us in the future including next life? I know there are many Rinpoches taking rebirth again and again in the Tibetan Buddhist community, is there any connection with this ceremony e.g. 'help' you to be reborn as a human being or Rinpoche in the next life?

Sorry if this question sounds silly, thanks a lot.

Please check the date on your bio for the passing away of the second Dubsing. I'm sure it's wrong.
