Pure Land Poetry

Post by 明安 Myoan »

2/22/15
this little white stone cup i call my heart
it holds one drop of rain before it overflows
the slight winter sun comes out and suddenly
it is empty again

even so
like the bright eye of amida
the moon shines on this pittance of water
and thus it is seen
so small, just the right size
to be completely contained, round on all sides

ah, amida!
only you could do this impossible thing.

2/8/15
My hypocrisy is no secret, my confusion and hatred.
But what is this compassion? Who the hell let that in?
I’m offended to be loved.
I say you’re just a dream, Amida, go away.
But my pain turns to sand and I can’t hold on to a single grain.
Dream Amida, fake Amida, he turns me on my head with three little words.
I want to be mad that my cherished suffering, my beautiful ugly jewels turn to shadows (they can’t even give me that much!)

There’s just tender, sore gratitude where the hooks were.
And Amida, I am so glad.
I am so glad.

---

the western land is merely west,
no matter if you lie like a bloated carcass
or soar like a gilded cloud,
westward, just turn a little for heaven’s sake!
even now the sun warms your cheek,
it’s so easy to do.
then ah,
the stars! the trees!

---

Amida gathers over the dry heart and sends living rains; the earth he covers in hands to bear up our steps; in each dark and bright place is written his Name for us to find. Wonderful, wonderful!

When you see how much suffering a buddha can vanquish with such simplicity, it makes you want to laugh at your foolishness yea?

It's happened to me many a time. That fire I hold on to so tightly isn't even real, everything is so fleeting.. letting it go, and you finally see your true face. :namaste:

Thus shall ye think of all this fleeting world:
A star at dawn, a bubble in a stream;
A flash of lightning in a summer cloud,
A flickering lamp, a phantom, and a dream.
