I watched that video Lucas posted and started thinking about the expanding universe...

time and space is, for lack of a better word, malleable, right? Is it possible the universe is not actually expanding, and rather, we're all shrinking?

This might not be the right place to look for an answer to that.
It's a good idea but not a new one.
Decades ago (I'm not saying how many :spy: ) I read a SF short story with exactly this premise. As I remember it, the people in it only started noticing something weird was happening when the lowest-frequency radio waves started disappearing from the radio astronomers' spectrum. By the time they worked out that the reason was that the universe was already smaller than a couple of wavelengths across, mid-frequencies were dropping out as the universe continued to shrink ...
:toilet:

:coffee:
Kim
Oh, right... the lower frequencies... there still might be some weird space-time glitch... but my theory is getting less elegant.

LOL amateur physics! :woohoo:
OK. wait wait wait, unless light is not a constant, or at least only constant to us who are shrinking...

I'm going to ask and report back.

I spoke to my physics teachers and the first thing my mother-in-law asked was, where did you hear about this? It's an old proposition that has been disproven. My father-in-law then chimed in saying it's possible but unlikely because too many things would need to be coordinated.

Talking to them both on the phone - it's a little like talking to Miracle Max and Valerie as played by Billy Crystal and Carol Kane in the Princess Bride.

just to remember ... I found these links on a website about gnosticism.

Gnosticism

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gnosticism

The Key Points of Gnosticism for Beginners
http://cinegnose.blogspot.com.br/2010/0 ... -para.html
https://www.wikihow.com/Become-a-Gnostic

on this site there are many texts with works of scientist speaking that the universe is an illusion or simulation
http://cinegnose.blogspot.com.br/2017/1 ... -para.html
http://cinegnose.blogspot.com.br/2015/1 ... m-uma.html
http://cinegnose.blogspot.com.br/2013/0 ... e-uma.html
http://cinegnose.blogspot.com.br/2015/0 ... xford.html
http://cinegnose.blogspot.com.br/2012/1 ... os-na.html

but the focus of this site is the cinema and the Gnostic ideas
http://cinegnose.blogspot.com.br/2015/0 ... -para.html

...

sorry for the amount of links. it is only to say that this idea of illusion is well known to the Gnostics.

I asked the about the same thing years ago on a skeptical forum with resident physicists and got the same answer. If you've read Desmond Morris, you know that those caveated "No"'s just mean, " "I don't know, but I'm almost certainly still smarter than you so don't get all uppity about it."

Personally I still think all the matter in the universe is infinitely dissipating. The worse consequence to me for saying that out loud will be a random drug test. The attornet general will never think to reevaluate my imputed income.
