It talks about motion, beauty, and nature. What exactly is Zen? it isn't exactly describable but would be a state of mind or state of being - sort of like a hummingbird.

It really varies from temple to temple. I stayed at Antaiji one summer (three months) a few years ago. Their work day schedule looks like this:Wesley1982 wrote:I think at the Japanese Zendo they do their responsibilties first thing in the morning then in the afternoon time to dwell and roam.
You can see the full details of their schedules here. Antaiji is an unorthodox Soto temple, so the schedule might be a little more work-intensive than a traditional one.4am to 6:10am Zazen
6:10am Breakfest
6:40am Cleaning
After cleaning Help in the kitchen
7:30am to noon Samu (work)
12:00 noon Lunch
after lunch Samu (work), shower, help in the kitchen
5:00pm Dinner
5:20pm Dish washing
5:30pm Tea meeting
6pm to 8pm Zazen
after 8pm Free time (be quiet after 9pm)

You would measure the time you have for activities with sunrise and sunset.

Yea, that's how it was in medieval Japan before they had clocks.Wesley1982 wrote:You would measure the time you have for activities with sunrise and sunset.

Well, clocks can be misleading because time itself is probably an illusion.tomamundsen wrote:Yea, that's how it was in medieval Japan before they had clocks.Wesley1982 wrote:You would measure the time you have for activities with sunrise and sunset.
