what kind of tea is best for meditation?

Post by /johnny\ »

i like mao feng. i only drink it a few days a week and only for meditation and it really helps. it's a really high quality (but fairly cheap:) ) green tea that is high in caffeine but also high in theanine which balances the caffeine out so you're not jittery or racing thoughts.

anyone have any recommendations?

lol! I've had a couple of good sessions with coffee, the theanine in tea makes it work better for me though.

Matcha (powdered fine green tea) is the traditional drink of choice among Zen meditators in Japan.

It has a lot of caffeine and vitamin C.

There is also Koi-cha (rich tea), which is a thicker, richer type of matcha used in tea ceremonies. Positively smells like a fresh cut lawn.

Coffee in my experience has suited me best, though black tea in large enough quantities is alright as well.

Coffee is not tea but its a good option.

I am from Portugal and from what i understand, american coffee is not so strong (neither spanish coffee for example), so you could try coffee like in Brasil, Portugal, Italy...a small, but strong, cup of coffee is enough to awake. Its advisable to take it 4-6 hours before sleep. Thats the time it takes to get the caffeine out of your body, so you can get a nice sleep.

Caffè Americano, or Americano (Italian: American coffee) is a style of coffee prepared by adding hot water to espresso, giving a similar strength but different flavor from regular drip coffee. The strength of an Americano varies with the number of shots of espresso and the amount of water added.

ugh, I hate matcha but thanks for the idea:) Maybe I'll try it again and ignore that lawn clipping smell and flavor and see if it works for meditation as i have never tried it for that.

Its the real British tea deal.... Rich and powerful , with a dash of milk it turns brick red....

Not like in the US where you are brought a glass of hot water with a teabag on the saucer... :o

Since the topic came up...

there are a number of regional variations in coffee consumption in the US. I'm from Portland, Oregon, USA; I take it black and brewed out of one of these things:

but where I live in Virginia, it's usually drowned in sugar and cream as though it's a dessert. Narsty.

I love Bettys ever since I visited York. I agree their tea is the best I've tasted in the UK.
