At that time the Thus Come One smiled and emitted billions of great light clouds.
There was a light cloud of great fullness, a light cloud of great compassion, a light cloud of great wisdom, a light cloud of great prajna, a light cloud of great samadhi, a light cloud of great auspiciousness, a light cloud of great blessings, a light cloud of great merit, a light cloud of great refuge, and a light cloud of great praise.

Re: Auspicious clouds.
thanks remm... cool!
Noble PWLK,
thank you for this /\ , you quoted...
one of the patriarchs says "I am like this". his master says to him "I am not like this." anyone knowing about dharmakaya or suchness knows that dharma kaya is 'just like this', things as they are. When the old patriarch said this to his predecessor there must have been some surprise.
to become Icchantika is to completely extinguish Mind, which is Buddha Nature in its purest form. One cannot extinguish Mind unless one knows it, therefore to become Icchantika is only accessible to a Buddha that has transcended emptiness and appreciated the realm of pure Mind.
the boddhisatva Icchantika was called the Acchantika, but as to the Name of the Buddha that became Icchantika/without Buddha nature - im not sure there is a term. Great Master Keizan of the Soto still uses the term Icchantika to describe this great being that has surpassed even the Buddhas.
unsurprising that a somewhat derogotory term as Icchantika could be appropriated for a state beyond Buddhahood.
Best Wishes,
White Lotus.

though a statement like this above can only be said with conviction once the Self nature is seen (Buddha Nature)... there were among the Zen Patriarchs those who went beyond Mind to the state where they no longer had buddha nature... the term Icchantika was turned into the highest attainment. Icchantika in the sense that this buddha had now relinquished all buddha nature."If people wish to fully understand,
All Buddhas of the Three Periods of Time,
They should contemplate the nature of the Dharma Realm,
EVERYTHING is made MIND ALONE"

Hi remm those are some very nice pics. Did you take them all yourself? Are those types of clouds a common occurence there? And who's Mrs. Chung Li Chung?

I did take some pictures with my camera, but the colors are very hard to see and some pictures didn't turn out that good. And yes those clouds are very common at CTTB, they usually appear during special occasions. I don't know who Mrs. Chung Li Chung is personally, but the family did her funeral at CTTB on the same day as the Ven. Master's 15th remembrance of entering nirvana.

Hmmm, I'd guess, polarizing filter shots.... maybe through a plastic window...Annapurna wrote:Amazing rainbows in the clouds.

Re: Auspicious clouds.
Those are actually circumhorizontal arcs, which itself is a phenomenon of its own. They're caused by the ice crystal in cirrus clouds, forming a halo effect in the clouds.catmoon wrote:Hmmm, I'd guess, polarizing filter shots.... maybe through a plastic window...Annapurna wrote:Amazing rainbows in the clouds.

Holy schamoley these things are not camera artifacts - they actually exist!

Re: Auspicious clouds.
I found video footage of these same clouds that were posted. They are definitely not a hoax. Chung Li's spirit on a lotus flower is no where to be seen in the video though.
Re: Auspicious clouds.
The spirit sitting on the lotus is seen at 1:26 in the video, occupying the left half of the screen. Yes, it's pretty impressionistic, but try looking at it for a while. A surpising amount of detail fits.

Thanks for pointing that out. I wasn't looking carefully. It is very surprising indeed.catmoon wrote:The spirit sitting on the lotus is seen at 1:26 in the video, occupying the left half of the screen.
