The Four ________

Post by Lhug-Pa »

This thread was inspired by Muni's recent post on:

http://www.rigpawiki.org/index.php?title=Four_reliances" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

The following are also considered very important—even indispensable—to know as well:

http://www.rigpawiki.org/index.php?title=Four_seals" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
http://www.rigpawiki.org/index.php?title=Four_thoughts" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
http://www.rigpawiki.org/index.php?titl ... easurables" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
http://www.rigpawiki.org/index.php?titl ... powerments" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
http://www.rigpawiki.org/index.php?title=Four_powers" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
http://www.rigpawiki.org/index.php?titl ... ble_truths" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
http://www.rigpawiki.org/index.php?title=Four_mudras" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
http://www.rigpawiki.org/index.php?title=Four_joys" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
http://www.rigpawiki.org/index.php?title=Four_empties" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
http://www.rigpawiki.org/index.php?title=Four_nails" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
http://www.rigpawiki.org/index.php?title=Four_maras" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
http://www.rigpawiki.org/index.php?title=Four_forces" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
http://www.rigpawiki.org/index.php?titl ... indfulness" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
http://www.rigpawiki.org/index.php?titl ... of_Gampopa" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
http://www.rigpawiki.org/index.php?titl ... of_Abiding" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
http://www.rigpawiki.org/index.php?titl ... idyadharas" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
http://www.rigpawiki.org/index.php?title=Four_das" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
http://www.rigpawiki.org/index.php?titl ... chokshyaks" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
http://www.rigpawiki.org/index.php?title=Four_extremes" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; (See also: Eight Extremes)
http://www.rigpawiki.org/index.php?title=Four_visions" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; (See also: The Six Lamps)
http://www.rigpawiki.org/index.php?titl ... l_Illusion" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; (See also: Eight Sections of Magical Illusion)

This Three can also be another very important Four if we include Refuge (although Refuge is included by default within the following Three):

http://www.rigpawiki.org/index.php?titl ... principles" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Vimalamitra describes Five kinds or types of Vidya or Rigpa, however it looks like Rigpawiki describes Four:

http://www.google.com/search?q=site%3Ar ... +OR+Ground" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

And I just want to add here as well The Eight Examples or Similes of Illusion:

http://www.rigpawiki.org/index.php?titl ... f_illusion" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Edit - Just saw this post:

The Four Subdivisions of Anuyoga

For more Fours:

(Did I miss any other very important Fours?)

There is a rather extensive list here:

Buddhism by Numbers

Thanks Viniketa I'll look over that, as one almost always encounters new terms in every Buddhist glossary.

The main emphasis for this thread however is the importance of "The Fours" (I should've posted the following two links in the initial post):

http://www.rigpawiki.org/index.php?titl ... Index/Four" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

http://rywiki.tsadra.org/index.php?titl ... Four&go=Go" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Although to be even more thorough, there is also:

http://www.greatliberation.org/teaching ... ossary.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

When I first started this thread I didn't see this category:

http://www.rigpawiki.org/index.php?titl ... ry:04-Four" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

http://www.rigpawiki.org/index.php?titl ... umerations" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
