Lotus seed mala

Post by Seishin » Wed Dec 19, 2012 3:50 pm

This website http://dzibeads.blogspot.co.uk/2009_11_01_archive.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; suggests that Lotus seed beads don't come from the Lotus Plant. Does anyone know where they come from then?

Imho these seeds look alike:
http://de.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?tit ... 0316135853" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

They are the seed of nelumbo nucifera, Indian Lotusplant.

The beads just seem to be polished and got rid of its skin?

Once i heard somebody call them "Bodhiseeds". This must be a mistake, because the seeds from the Bodhitree are very tiny.
This mala for example is called a "Bodhi seed mala". http://geschenke-spirit.de/Testshop/Med ... it-Zaehler" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
But the actual seed of Bodhi looks diffrent.

:shrug: So i don't know how this mix-up of names could happen.

(...)

Well, maybe the beads could be the dried Bodhifruit? The seed is tiny within these small green balls.

I guess: what is a bead later was a container for the real seeds on the plant.
A capsule for the tiny seed.
And I guess, the small black points on the beads are the little caves of the real seed. :smile:
