So is Prof. Thurman gossiping when in the Rolling Stone article he publicly calls Roach's version of Tibetan Buddhism, "an American pop-religion knockoff"?5heaps wrote:he's not.Ayu wrote:Isn't there anybody who could bring him to justice - if he is to blame for these events?
everything else in this thread is opinion which when you dwell on and share publicly, becomes gossip and gossiping.

No, 5heaps is indulging in a venerable Buddhist tradition - particularly popular among Tibetan Buddhists - of crying wrong speech when the faults of any Buddhist teacher are aired. Some people find criticism of anyone in a skirt/funny hat or on a throne deeply disturbing. They don't want their illusions shattered. Which makes one wonder why they bother with Buddhism in the first place.Tom wrote:So is Prof.

It's understandable. Anybody who knows what the karma dakinis and samaya dakinis are like should fear them terribly. Even if you only think they're the manifestations of your own guilt, shame, and neurosis.Knotty Veneer:

However, Patrul Rinpoche tells us not examining the teacher is like drinking poison.
If the opinion of Robert Thurman, the articles in the New York Times on the murder at Diamond Mountain, and the absurdly perfect constellation of negative qualities, greed, and creepiness that 99% of all of us percieve when we even just hear his name aren't legitimate forms of examination (and criteria for discrediting and repudiating him) we might as well all just go drink a bunch of Bob Jones' brand roachkiller.
Although I don't really think it's healthy or helpful to dwell on it. I wish this thread would die.
