The Big Dipper

Post by PadmaVonSamba »

The theist sees the Big Dipper
and says that it is a giant sauce pan created by God.

The Atheist sees the Big Dipper
and says that it is merely a constellations of stars that resembles a sauce pan.

The Buddhist sees the Big Dipper
and says that in fact there is no Big Dipper,
but only an attachment to appearances that arise in the mind.

What do you think?

It is pretty amazing to think that some of those stars are over 10 million light years away, so even if they no longer existed, we wouldn't notice for another 10mil years...

in which time, our own sun might no longer exist, so we would never know if they truly are still there at this point in time or not.

Buddhists see the Big Dipper and turn it into an ornament of pristine awareness. The swastika.

That's the little dipper, which lines up with the north star.
