The beloved and renowned Dzogchen, Great Perfection yogi Shabkar Tsokdruk Rangdrol was born in Repkong, in the Amdo province of northeastern Tibet in the late 18th century. “The Flight of the Garuda" arose from Shabkar’s realization of the Great Perfection as a doha, a spontaneously arising vajra song. The Clear Light Great Perfection has two sections: trekchöd & tögal. “The Flight of the Garuda” text belongs to the trekchöd section. There are many different Great Perfection teachings, but this text presents it in the most profound and clearest way, neither too long nor too brief. The Great Perfection view, meditation, conduct, and result are all contained within this single profound text. In particular, Shabkar expresses from the heart of his realization how to liberate afflictive emotions directly into wisdom.
Rinpoche has requested that the Trekchöd Retreat be restricted. If the student has completed Rinpoche’s Drubdra, Rushen Retreat, or any of the previous Trekchöd Retreats (from January 2001-2010), then they do not need permission to attend this retreat.
In order to attend retreat, the student should have completed the Dudjom Tersar, Khandro T’huk-T’hik or Tröma Nagmo Ngöndro. If someone has finished ngöndro from another lineage, then Rinpoche requests that they also complete at least 10% of the Dudjom Tersar Ngöndro, preferably prior to retreat.
Rinpoche requires that retreatants attend all of the teachings. It is very important to receive these teachings in their entirety. People must also commit to individual practice sessions. If someone is absolutely unable to attend all the teachings, they must request permission to miss teachings from Rinpoche through the Office.
