Re: Random Thoughts
That's OK; like and dislike are a separate issue.
Here's my gripe with My Boy Lollipop. Bracketing the shrill, abrasive production and the "fire/desire" rhyme that is unlistenable in any dialect of English, what tips that tune into a candidate for the worst ever recording is the underage-girl-singing-in-code-about-fellatio theme.
My mom's favorite tune was an upbeat number singing the praises of sexual assault.
I like some stinkers too.
Like and dislike are peculiar things.
Re: Random Thoughts
Und hier I thought it was just a cute little song about a girl professing her love for her boyfriend who happened to be named Lollipop ...

Saw the movie Paths of the soul (Kang rinpoche). Very impressed.

Personally I prefer youthful innocence to double entendre DGA. In 1964, when the Millie Small version was released most of us were innocents.

Ichiro Malt & Grain
I had heard it beat some well known Scotches in some prestigious competition. Typical Japanese story of obsessive perfectionist alchemy. Wife brought a bottle from Japan and I drank it pretty quickly.
Yeah. I might like whiskey a little too much.
There is no suffering to be severed. Ignorance and klesas are indivisible from bodhi. There is no cause of suffering to be abandoned. Since extremes and the false are the Middle and genuine, there is no path to be practiced. Samsara is nirvana. No severance achieved. No suffering nor its cause. No path, no end. There is no transcendent realm; there is only the one true aspect. There is nothing separate from the true aspect.

Went to a symphony last night and I swear Coolio's Gangster's Paradise sounds a lot like Dvorak's Serenade for Strings, Op22 II. Menuetto.
And actually, Coolio's song is a sample of Stevie Wonder, so I'm "wondering" if Stevie got a bit of his musical ideas from Dvorak.

It's shrill but really upbeat. And it's classy enough to use a double entendre that relies on the impure mind of the listener rather than just being lewd about it.
This song is a Spanish language classic (translation included) that reminds me of the grandmother of my first child. Her upbringing was Maya Angelou hard but she spent a good portion of her life being angry at men in general. Lucky for me, I got to expiate tons of bad karma. Her daughter still provides me with the privilege of such immense benefits years later.

Erm ahhh
go away little girl i'm not supposed to be alone with you..
Oh yes I know that your lips are sweet
But our lips must never meet
worse
Young Girl
Gary Puckett & The Union Gap
Young girl, get out of my mind
My love for you is way out of line
Better run girl
You're much too young girl
With all the charms of a woman
You've kept the secret of your youth
You led me to believe you're old enough
To give me love
And now it hurts to know the truth
and the nightmare of all
Stray Cat Blues
The Rolling Stones
I hear the click-clack of your feet on the stairs
I know you're no scare-eyed honey.
There'll be a feast if you just come upstairs
But it's no hanging matter
It's no capital crime
I can see that you're fifteen years old
No I don't want your I.D.
live version on get your ya yas out she is 13..

Re: Random Thoughts
I always detested those songs, regardless of the lyrics they just suck musically (well, not the Stray Cats tune). Thank you for reminding me of these songs that epitomize the worst of American pop music!Minobu wrote: ↑Sun Nov 12, 2017 12:49 am Erm ahhh

Re: Random Thoughts
Who is "us"? Most of us were not yet alive in 1964, in terms of the human population on planet earth. I was born twelve years later. But that's a separate point.
The double entendre (as you put it) was there from the start. IT was put there by the recording industry, which is anything but innocent. They knew what they were doing when they put that record out. Millie Small was 16 when she recorded "my boy lollipop." It's a migraine trigger and an artifact of a highly sexist culture. Which brings me to an uncomfortable point:
"innocent" is a polite word for "ignorant" in the sense of not yet knowing how the world works.
Re: Random Thoughts
Your post reminds me of an old relationship and, related to that, the hottest summer jam of 1991. In Mexico. Right? I played both songs simultaneously and if they aren't the same melody, I still think I could do a good dj mix with them.DGA wrote: ↑Sun Nov 12, 2017 1:19 amYes.TharpaChodron wrote: ↑Sat Nov 11, 2017 11:27 pm Went to a symphony last night and I swear Coolio's Gangster's Paradise sounds a lot like Dvorak's Serenade for Strings, Op22 II. Re: Random Thoughts
wow so like this is a bit much for an older guy to be singing.
what a nightmare when you read this
You're Sixteen
Ringo Starr
You come on like a dream, peaches and cream
Lips like strawberry wine
You're sixteen, you're beautiful and you're mine
You're all ribbons and curls, ooh, what a girl
Eyes that sparkle and shine
You're sixteen, you're beautiful and you're mine
You're my baby, you're my pet
We fell in love on the night we met
You touched my hand, my heart went pop
Ooh, when we kissed I could not stop
You walked out of my dreams and into my arms
Now you're my angel divine
You're sixteen, you're beautiful and you're mine
You're my baby, you're my pet
We fell in love on the night we met
You touched my hand, my heart went pop
Ooh, when we kissed I could not stop
You walked out of my dreams, and into my car
Now you're my angel divine
You're sixteen, you're beautiful, and you're mine
You're sixteen, so beautiful, and you're mine
