Tallest Statues in the world, Buddhas and other

Post by Aemilius » Sat May 21, 2011 10:53 am

There are many great Buddha rupas in People's Republic of China, and also in Japan, hardly any built by tibetans, where is the problem? The list is interesting anyhow http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_statues_by_height

Interesting list, many Buddhist statues near the top of the tallest in the world.

The Tibetans may not be building due to lack of financial resources. And I don't suppose the Chinese government will help them.

when you are that far up in elevation, as is Tibet, any statue you build will already be higher!!!
Profile Picture: "The Foaming Monk"
The Chinese characters are Fo (buddha) and Ming (bright). The image is of a student of Buddhism, who, imagining himself to be a monk, and not understanding the true meaning of the words takes the sound of the words literally. Likewise, People on web forums sometime seem to be foaming at the mouth.

You could also discuss: Why do people make statues ? What is the urge for making statues ? & Why do we make big statues?

Chinese goverment does not allow any large buddhist statues to be built outdoors in Tibet. One of the recents attempts to do so:
