Anyone know what happened to buddhanet.net?

Something happened?
I wouldn't know, as I don't visit sites that promote NKT and their kind.

Can you access it? I just get sent to a search page from my ISP.

It's an NKT thing? I thought it was run by Theravadins.

Buddhianet is working fine as far as I can see.
It has nothing whatever to do with NKT. It was started and is run by a Australian Theravadin monk, Ven. Pannyavaro, from a retreat centre in Northern NSW. Buddhanet was one of the very first public websites, about any subject at all, to go live, in around 1995 or so (from memory) and has been running ever since. A wonderful resource.

Re: What happened to Buddhanet.net
Good to know, it was one of the first online Buddhist resources I became aware of, and was a huge part of me getting active in Dharma. I never noticed any NKT stuff there.Wayfarer wrote: ↑Wed Nov 22, 2017 7:16 amBuddhianet is working fine as far as I can see.

I have no access either to that link.

Re: What happened to Buddhanet.net
It is not an "NKT thing". I said it promotes NKT, which it does. This website lists Buddhist centers around the world, and that includes NKT-related centers as well as non-NKT centers.Johnny Dangerous wrote: ↑Wed Nov 22, 2017 6:26 amIt's an NKT thing? I thought it was run by Theravadins.
It means that these guys have no quality control whatsoever in terms of what's included in their lists, since they include anything and everything in their lists. Just check for yourself.

Re: What happened to Buddhanet.net
They do not include 'anything' in their e-book offerings. Matter of fact I found no NKT books listed. They seem to prefer Chinese Mahayana & Theravadin, with a few from FPMT.

It seems you don't understand what I am saying. I am not talking about ebooks at all. Please read my post again.Nicholas Weeks wrote: ↑Wed Nov 22, 2017 4:59 pmThey do not include 'anything' in their e-book offerings. Matter of fact I found no NKT books listed. I am specifically talking about its lists over centers/organizations and similar around the world, in the Americas, Europe, Asia, etc. Where in many of these countries listed, they also include NKT centers and similar. That is what I am talking about. This means they have no quality control.
By listing such centers, they are promoting their presence, whether knowingly or not. And that's not good.

I do understand - you have found a blemish and you cannot abide that flaw in the site.Norwegian wrote: ↑Wed Nov 22, 2017 5:12 pmIt seems you don't understand what I am saying. Nor have I.
None of the search results I found on DuckDuckGo seem to work either.
A search found their FB page - https://www.facebook.com/pg/buddhanet.n ... e_internal - which was last updated three weeks ago, but the link to the site from that page doesn't work either.

Re: What happened to Buddhanet.net
I'd talk to your ISP after seeking the simple solutions, e.g. clearing cache etc, I've checked consistently and not found it down.

I just checked again and found that it is (still) down for me.Johnny Dangerous wrote: ↑Mon Nov 27, 2017 2:00 amI'd talk to your ISP after seeking the simple solutions, e.g. clearing cache etc, I've checked consistently and not found it down.
Perhaps you could tell them there's a problem? I can't even do that because the 'contact' link on their FB page goes to their website.

Re: What happened to Buddhanet.net
It works fine from here. I'm in Norway, Europe.
Re: What happened to Buddhanet.net
Hi Kim - I have their page open in my web browser here, there’s a Report Technical Problems - I might post something there, although not quite sure what to say. Should I post the URL of this thread, perhaps?Kim O'Hara wrote: ↑Mon Nov 27, 2017 3:14 amI just checked again and found that it is (still) down for me.Johnny Dangerous wrote: ↑Mon Nov 27, 2017 2:00 amI'd talk to your ISP after seeking the simple solutions, e.g. clearing cache etc, I've checked consistently and not found it down.

Well, they obviously have a problem, even if we don't know what the problem is, and they may not even know they have a problem so ... yes, it would be good to make them aware of it.
