This isn't too distant from what Alva Noë has been saying for some years in books like Out of our Heads. It's also not too distant from Varela and Maturana's work in Embodied Cognition. And also have a look at this column from David Brooks, The Neural Buddhists.
Actually another thought that comes to mind, is the fact that we are designated as 'beings', and that 'being' is an act. And that observation, believe it or not, is actually from Aquinas!

Reminds me of early chan dialogues between student and master, except with way, way way, too many words and no references to trees, mountains etc.
