Finding mewa

Just got Namkhai Norbu's book on Astrology.

I'm trying to find my birth year mewa (birthday is Jan 12 1981). From the charts, it looks like my year was a Metal Monkey year, technically 1980, since 1981 started in February. Could someone help me out with the mewa for this year?

Thanks, just got that myself. Thanks for the help, and I'm also glad I worked on it myself a little in the book, because now I understand how to use the Mewa table in the back. Next I'll be learning to calculate the mewa of the day, and comparing it to mine (2).

Kevin et al- one more question for now:

The days of the week are very helpful and approachable.

Do these refer to our Western days of the week, or would you calculate this from the lunar calendar, with day 1 being Sunday Monday being 2, and so on?

Grigoris, others too, how can I find the constellations for a given day? The kalachakra website you gave is very good, is the info in there somewhere? I'm including an image from there, maybe it's buried in there somehow.

The way you find the constellation is you look here (under nakshatra)

Then you use this list to find what number that nakshatra (constellation) corresponds to:

Then you subtract 1 from that list as Tibetan count differently ie. they count the first constellation as "0", the second as "1", etc. So the list there if 1-27 is 0-26.

Then you use the charts in A Key for Consulting the Tibetan Calander to understand what minor, major combinations and conjunctions are being formed at any given time.

Like I have explained before, you cannot rely on calanders, since they only list the constellation running at sunrise in a specific location, which may change at any given time during the day. Also, the location calculated for may not be your location, among other reasons.

This is usng Lahari ayanamsa, but that is more reliable than the strange Tibetan ayanamsa which is a bit askew.
