Re: Garchen Rinpoche Chakrasamvara Empowerment & Ganges Mahamudra
Which version of the Mahamudra upadesha is more widely taught?
For example in the past Garchen Rinpoche has taught from both versions; the one that begins with the line:
I prostrate to glorious Vajradakini!
As well as the one that begins with the line:
Homage to glorious co-emergence!

Apologies for double post but I need to make a correction. The previous Mahamudra Upadesha teachings I heard from Garchen Rinpoche did begin with: Homage to glorious co-emergence!Sennin wrote: ↑Sat Apr 28, 2018 5:29 pm Which version of the Mahamudra upadesha is more widely taught?

And if I'm not mistaken the version that begins with:
I prostrate to glorious Vajradakini! is more widely used in the Karma Kagyu school.

Hi Sennin,
I'm afraid, I have no clue.

Is it normal in the Kagyu to give the Vajrayogini empowerment first?
In Gelugpa the Heruka empowerment usually precedes the Vajrayogini in HYT.

You've discovered an issue that has been controversial since the 13th century (see Sakya Pandita's Clear Differentiation of the Three Vows and also this.)
Re: Garchen Rinpoche Chakrasamvara Empowerment & Ganges Mahamudra
I don't know the answer to your question, but in information I read about this Vajrayogini empowerment, it is necessary in order to practice Phowa. Vajrayogini is the deity one transforms into during the practice. And they taught Phowa in the days after this empowerment.

Re: Garchen Rinpoche Chakrasamvara Empowerment & Ganges Mahamudra
Yes, they gave the empowerment and then the transmission of the phowa which uses Vajrayogini. Interesting that Garchen also said you could use your yidam instead of Vajrayogini.Malcolm wrote: ↑Sun Apr 29, 2018 2:11 pmDepends on the phowa.Lhasa wrote: ↑Sun Apr 29, 2018 2:07 pmI don't know the answer to your question, but in information I read about this Vajrayogini empowerment, it is necessary in order to practice Powa. Does anybody know if the english translation by Ken McLeod is free?
http://www.naturalawareness.net/ganges.html#KenMcLeod
I find it all over the net, but that doesn't mean that the translator agrees with the distribution... I'm asking because I'm compiling an epub more or less with copy and paste from two sources, the Tibetan text from the rywiki
http://rywiki.tsadra.org/index.php/phya ... i_man_ngag
which I converted with good ole wylie for word, and the English translation by McLeod. If the translation is free I'd be happy to share the result. (Though there seem to be a couple of typos in the ry text...)

Re: Garchen Rinpoche Chakrasamvara Empowerment & Ganges Mahamudra
I had no idea there were so many variations, not to mention the mahamudra issue and the difference between blessing and empowerment. I'm not sure how many variations there are within the Gelugpa, between the Lamas, but my guess is very few.
I liked Garchen Rinpoche's explanation prior to the empowerment, relating to the 'old' and 'new' ways.

OK, if somebody wants to have the text, PM me. I'm not going to put it online publicly as I don't know if McLeod's translation free, but I hope it's OK when I share it with this community.
I made three corrections to the text, at least I hope they are corrections - if I screwed this up or if somebody finds any other mistakes please let me know
The first line reads:
/phya rgya chen po bstan du med kyis kyang/
All other versions I found read phyag rgya chen po, so I changed this.
in one line the rywiki text reads:
/byas ba’i chos la syning po me pas don ldan snying po ltos/
I changed this to snying po
and near the end it reads tee lo pas - wylie for word was unable to convert that, I'm guessing it's another way of transscribing what I know from the extended wylie transliteration scheme as tai, so I changed it correspondingly, which generates this letter: ཏཻ

Here is a description:
http://www.buddhavisions.com/yidam-deit ... on-stage/.
- This sadhana, composed by Jigten Sumgön (1143-1217), contains the practices of Avalokitesharva, the wrathful deity Achala, and Vajrayogini woven into one. It is designed to be practiced when doing the practices of chandali (tummo or inner fire meditation)
I'm not really certain on the details, Garchen Rinpoche gave the transmission for the text immediately after he completed the Ganges Mahamudra teaching.
The profound path of the master.

Re: Garchen Rinpoche Chakrasamvara Empowerment & Ganges Mahamudra
I received this Empowerment via Livestream there were four in total, the Generation and Mantra Transmission, Tummo then two for Mahamudra.
Can anyone with the knowledge clarify the meaning of the last two empowerments?
Thanks

Are there typically daily practice commitments as a part of the samaya for receiving Chakrasamvara for Garchen Rinpoche?
