Hi all...
I am reading something on Jhana.
the source is from a theravada monk book "Knowing & Seeing, by Ven. Pa Auk Sayadaw".
but going throught the book i read that they use a Repulsive meditation on the body...
sure i can keep going over this and take the other instruction but i am asking if exist a deep explanation or a book on the jhana with a less "repulsion for the body" like Tantra talk about...
in less word ...
is there any instruction complete and extensive on the all the step for the Jhana (samatha , access concentration , overcome hindrance and so on ) in the Mahayana or vajrayana tradition...
book site and so on is really welcome...
thanks.

Ajahn Brahm is Theravada, but his book is solid.

Ajahn Brahm, solid? You understate the case. Ajahn Brahm sitting on a mountain makes the mountain look like it is made of jello. He's the only Theravadin teacher I trust implicitly. (Mind you I am not familiar with many Theravadin teachers.)Huseng wrote:Ajahn Brahm is Theravada, but his book is solid.

Shaila Catherine is in my opinion an extraordinary teacher on this subject.
"All phenomena of samsara depend on the mind, so when the essence of mind is purified, samsara is purified. Since the phenomena of nirvana depend on the pristine consciousness of vidyā, because one remains in the immediacy of vidyā, buddhahood arises on its own. All critical points are summarized with those two." - Longchenpa

I've seen him in real life. He has excellent speaking skills. Absolutely no stuttering, "ums" or hesitation. He has a very sharp and clear mind.catmoon wrote:Ajahn Brahm, solid? I wouldn't be surprised if he is an Arhat.

Daniel Ingram's book Mastering The Core Teachings of the Buddha has a lot of this information in it, often in a useful table form. It can be downloaded for free from his website.

From what I've read of his books, Ajahn Brahm seems to be a first rate teacher. However, he doesn't always go down so well in the Theravada community itself. See, for example on our sister website, dhammawheel http://www.dhammawheel.com/viewtopic.ph ... hm#p119639Huseng wrote:I've seen him in real life. He has excellent speaking skills. Edwards: You are a philosopher. Dr Johnson: I have tried too in my time to be a philosopher; but, I don't know how, cheerfulness was always breaking in.

Thanks for the suggestion...
I am going to order his book.
glad to hear also that he make some complain on the "scripture"... thats a good sign ... i enjoy people that "kill the buddha" (for me intended).
