Greetings

Post by Alternatehistory95 » Fri Jun 28, 2019 7:37 pm

Hello, my name is Jeffrey Newell and after some research and thought, i've decided that the best path for me is Buddhism. I have autism and anxiety, and am hoping that as a Buddhist, I can be free from the anxiety and emotional distress I suffer through its practices. I have 3 questions.

How do I formally become a Buddhist, is there an official process?

How can I practice Buddhism in my daily life.

Are there any books of sutras translated into English I can read?

Welcome to DW!

I too am borderline autistic and can have some anxiety (usually this is just using the telephone but there can be other interpersonal communication issues).

There are lots and lots of sutras translated into English now.

There is the wonderful 84000.co project which is an initiative by Dzonsar Khyentse Rinpoche to translate the Tibetan Buddhist sutras into English and other western languages.

Here is one of several others: BuddhistSutra.com

"Even if you practice only for an hour a day with faith and inspiration, good qualities will steadily increase. Regular practice makes it easy to transform your mind. From seeing only relative truth, you will eventually reach a profound certainty in the meaning of absolute truth."
