Cost of living in Dharamsala

Post by Lingpupa » Thu Mar 26, 2020 9:58 am

One of my teachers lives in Dharamsala, and Covid19 has cut off all his income for many months if not the year ahead. I'm going to sponsor some sadhanas at his place as a way to help - my own income is *relatively* safe, at least for the time being, and as long as the whole system of our society does not collapse. But how much to send? It's not as if there is a "price list" - I can only offer what is appropriate, whatever that is.

As an orientation, I wonder if anyone would be able and willing to offer clues as to what the cost of living is there these days?

TIA, of course!

Average rent for one room (one person, not a family) might be 4000-1000 rupees per month, depending on how luxury their lifestyle. Tibetans usually live more cheaply than foreigners. Rinpoches on the other hand...

food might be 300-500 rupees a day (per person) if they eat out for every meal, 200 if they cook.

I was living there for the past couple years.
